Wasn’t everything better back then?

Hi,

As is often the case in life, you frequently hear people say, “Ah, everything used to be better back then.” I actually don’t think things are that bad these days. Some things were better back then, but so many things have also gotten better now compared to the past.

  Am I wrong? What about

- roads,
- medicine,
- technology (Hooray for 50-inch LED TVs and bigger, smartphones, iPads, etc.)?

Back then, people talked to each other more in person. But if you were 100 km apart, you could only communicate through letters. Now it’s better (thanks, Skype).

What do you think? When is it better? :-)

P.S. There’s a nice saying I heard somewhere once: “Everything used to be better, even the future.” Starting today, it’s in my signature. 

“Everything used to be better”—that saying is probably as old as humanity itself. That’s because people tend to repress the bad things and glorify the good ones. I don’t think everything was better “back then.” It was different, but not automatically better. A lot of things were actually worse (just look at technology, which you also mentioned). Medicine is definitely better today, too.

  Social networks exist today not only in real life but also virtually. The world is growing closer together—through Facebook, through tools like Skype—and I definitely think that’s better.
  Instead of writing letters, we send emails; instead of telegrams, we have WhatsApp. Communication is shorter, but we’re still communicating more.
Maybe we don’t get together in social gatherings as often anymore, but instead chat on our computers, tablets, or cell phones—but that’s also a way of being together.


No, I don’t think everything was better back then. It was just different.

The future can be good if you keep a few things in mind:
- the better you use the opportunities of today, the better the future will be.
--> Take the first step today on something your future self will thank you for.
- Dreams alone aren’t enough.
-->It would be better to make plans instead. With dreams, you may have to wait for the fairy with the magic wand; with plans, you can tackle things step by step and work toward them. Then you can get what you want. Anyone counting on the fairy should bring a lot of patience. :-)
And most importantly: Anyone who gives up confidence and no longer believes in the future robs themselves of the comforts the future may bring.

Back to the topic of Crazypatterns.

I think CP has made a really amazingly good development here. Considering that the portal is only a tender two years old, that’s all the more amazing.
I think we should celebrate a little in 2016; now, before Advent and Christmas, that probably won’t work out anymore.
There’s a lot going on here, the selection is colorful and beautiful, the portal is continuously developing, many designers sell here through the platform—great stuff. And above all: There is still so, so much more to come. CP must / will someday become the most popular platform for selling patterns in Germany, if not far beyond. :-) We can do this. I’m counting on you. Thanks to everyone for joining in, and of course an extra-big thank-you to all buyers, without whom none of this would be possible here.
