Rectangle Turns into a Trapezoid

Hello,
I’m trying to crochet a rectangle, but by now it has turned into a trapezoid. I counted every row to make sure the number of stitches was correct, and at the end I made one turning chain each time, which I did not crochet into in the new row. Where is my mistake?

Hi Jana, welcome to our forum.
I suspect that at the beginning of each row, you didn’t insert the hook into the first stitch, but always into the second one. That’s what causes it to turn into a trapezoid.
Here’s a picture—maybe it’ll help you. You make the turning chain and then insert the hook right at the front into the first stitch.

Thank you very much for your answer. But I think I’m doing that, otherwise it wouldn’t have matched the number of stitches I started with. Right?
Could it also have something to do with my “little pattern”? I insert the hook into the stitches differently on one row than on the return row so that the little braid shows.

I always insert the hook a little deeper into the last stitch of the row than into the rest of the stitches.
That way, the rectangle won’t turn into a trapezoid.

So now I’ve
- inserted the hook as usual
- into the front loop
- into the back loop
- as a front post stitch

Hmm... Okay, then I’ll have to start over from the beginning and see if I’m really working into the first stitch. Thanks for your advice.
