Knitting an Oversized Sweater

I just got home from work, and all day long I’ve been thinking about how to knit an oversized sweater. How do I figure out the size for the sweater?

Here’s what you could do:
You could use a standard knitting pattern for a sweater and, while keeping the same number of stitches (as specified in the pattern), simply use thicker yarn and needles that match the yarn’s thickness. That will also make the sweater quite a bit larger.

So, in the crochet patterns for sweaters that I’ve seen, two sizes are usually listed. Or rather, there’s a base size, and then it’s usually indicated in parentheses how many extra stitches you need for each size if you want to make a larger one.
I’m assuming that’s how it’s done in good knitting patterns as well.
I can only advise you to look for a suitable pattern that lists the stitches for multiple sizes.
Then you can just use your usual size as a guide and choose the next size up—or two sizes larger—for an oversized sweater.

If you want to figure out your own usual sweater size, you could take a sweater that fits you really well and measure it with a tape measure. There are charts online that help you determine the right size based on your own measurements.
But since I don’t know how big you want your oversized sweater to be—that is, how much extra room you want in the sweater compared to a relatively snug-fitting one—it’s hard for me to help you.

Is there actually no pattern for an oversized sweater in the Crazypatterns shop yet?

Maybe you’ll find how to knit the oversize sweater here: https://www.crazypatterns.net/de/items/248/oversize-pullover-ivy

Oversized sweaters are great. You could also add a hood to it.

For someone who gets cold easily like me, the sleeves shouldn’t end at the forearm—they should reach all the way to the wrist. =)

I’d rather have a blue sweater than a purple one :)
