Size:
Approx. 13 x 59 cm
If a yarn with the same gauge is used
32 Dc x 14 rows
Material:
Lace Yarn (Fingering) approx. 65 gr
I used yarn which had 50 gr to 280 m
(if you use a different weighted yarn, you might need more or less of the yarn)
Crochet hook 1.5 mm
Gauge in the filet crochet pattern:
10 x 10 cm: 14 Blocks length x 14 Blocks height
The Pattern is written in US terms:
St: Stitch
Ch: Chain
Slst: Slip stitch
Sc: Single crochet
Hdc: half double crochet
Dc: double crochet
Ch sp: chain space
Bl: Block
Sp: Space
You always need colourful decorations for birthday parties, so I thought I’d design something using filet crochet. And I honestly really love how it turned out. I decided to try a gradient yarn, and the important thing with that is to think about the background colour beforehand, otherwise the lettering might not stand out very well. Since I knew I would place it on a black background, I chose something colourful. Otherwise, I’d probably stick to a solid-colour version instead.
This pattern assumes that you are already familiar with filet crochet. 😊
The crochet piece is worked sideways and begins with the last letter.
Info:
The starting chain stitches always count as the first double crochet.
Double crochets are either worked as 1 double crochet into each stitch or as 2 double crochets into the chain space of the previous row.
When chain stitches are worked, always skip 2 stitches from the previous row (this is not mentioned in every row instruction).
It is important to maintain an even tension, so the chain stitches are neither too loose nor too tight.
As the table runner is worked in filet crochet, it consists of filled and empty squares (chain spaces).
Filled squares consist of 4 double crochets, while empty squares consist of 1 double crochet, 2 chain stitches, and 1 double crochet.
The first and last double crochet of a square also count as the first and last double crochet of the next square. However, the pattern always clearly states what needs to be worked.
Each row begins with 3 chain stitches and 3 double crochets in the following stitches.
At the end of each row, work 4 double crochets into the final stitches, with the last double crochet always worked into the 3rd chain of the previous row.

The Birthday Decoration:
Cast on 58 stitches with even tension.
(remember the 3 ch at the beginning of a row is counted as the first stitch, after 2 ch we jump over 2 stitches and the very last Dc is always worked on top of the 3rd ch from the previous round)

Cut the yarn and weave in all ends.
If working from the chart:
The lettering is worked sideways and begins with the letter Y at the back.
Even-numbered rows are read from left to right, odd-numbered rows from right to left.
Chain 58.
Work the first double crochet into the 4th chain from the hook.
(This means each row has a total of 55 stitches — either double crochets or chain stitches.)
Filled squares are shown in black on the chart and consist of 4 double crochets.
White squares represent empty squares and consist of 1 double crochet, 2 chain stitches, and 1 double crochet, always skipping 2 stitches.
The last double crochet of a filled or empty square also counts as the first double crochet of the next square.
When working two or more filled squares in a row:
The last double crochet also counts as the first double crochet of the next square.
This means:
2 squares = 7 double crochets
3 squares = 10 double crochets
4 squares = 13 double crochets
and so on.
Each row begins with 3 chain stitches and 3 double crochets. At the end of each row, work 4 double crochets, with the last double crochet always worked into the 3rd chain of the previous row. Make sure to keep an even tension, so the pattern does not become distorted.
