Free Crochet Pattern: Spring-Inspired Cactus Wall Decoration

This is a free crochet pattern for a spring-inspired wall hanging, worked in the C2C (corner-to-corner) technique. Basic knowledge of this technique is required, as the pattern does not include step-by-step instructions on how to crochet C2C.

I find this crochet technique very relaxing, while also being nice and quick to work up. The wall decor comes together fast and is perfect as a small handmade project in between.
With its fresh colours, this cactus design brings a touch of spring into your home and adds a lovely pop of colour to your wall.

Size:
Approx. 35 x 22cm
If a yarn with the same gauge is used
8 x 8 Blocks in the C2C pattern measure10 cm

Material:
DK yarn in the following colours:
Blue: 30 gr. (B)
Green: 20 gr. (G)
Sand: 20 gr. (S)
Brown: 5 gr. (Br)
Yellow: 5 gr. (Y)
Pink: 5 gr. (P)
(if you use a different weighted yarn, you might need more or less of the yarn)
Crochet hook 3 mm

The Pattern is written in US terms:
St: Stitch
Ch: Chain
Slst: Slip stitch
CH: Chain stitch
DC: Double Crochet
SS: Slip Stitch
Block: A Block always consists of the beginning Ch and the 3 Double Crochet.

Info:
For each row, I briefly indicate whether it is an increase or decrease row, followed by how the row begins (6 chain stitches or 3 slip stitches and 3 chain stitches).
Since this pattern forms a rectangle rather than a square, there are straight rows in the middle. In these rows, no blocks are increased, so the number of blocks remains the same.
I then simply state the number of blocks and the colour used for that row. Therefore, basic knowledge of C2C crochet is required.

As an example for this:
Row 9: Increase: ch 6, 1 B, 4 S, 1 Br, 3 S (9 blocks)
This means that row 9 is an increase row. It begins with 6 chain stitches, followed by the blocks: 1 block in blue, 4 blocks in sand, 1 block in brown, and 3 blocks in sand. In total, the row consists of 9 blocks.

Colour change:
Work the last double crochet until just before the end, but do not pull through the final loop yet. Yarn over with the new colour and complete the double crochet with the new colour. Always let the unused yarn fall to the back side.

Cut off the thread and sew the Ends 😊



Attach the hanger to the stick:
To attach the crochet piece to the stick, I’ve used a darning needle and took an approx. 1 meter long thread of the used yarn and sew each stitch onto the stick as shown in the pictures. I then attached a little hanger to the stick as well with an approx. 60 cm long thread and used a knot on both sides of the stick.
