Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Free Crochet Pattern for a Chick Applique'

I love crochet appliques because they are so versatile to use. Whether as patches on clothing, little decorations around the house, or glued onto handmade cards — they work beautifully for so many projects. I also really enjoy using them in my kitchen to decorate my walls and add a personal touch.

How do you like to use appliques the most? You are welcome to tell me in the comments 😊

Size:
Approx. 8 cm

Material:
DK yarn in various colours – you will need approximately 2 g in the body colour per chick, plus a small amount of orange for the feet and beak.
For the eyes, you can either use safety eyes or embroider them using black yarn. I used Aran weight yarn for this.
Crochet hook: 2 mm
You can also easily use a different yarn. Just make sure to adjust the crochet hook size accordingly, as this will also change the final size of the chick.

The Pattern is written in US terms:
St: Stitch
Slst: Slip stitch
Ch: Chain stitch
Sc: Single Crochet
Dc: Double Crochet
hDc: Half Double Crochet
Ss: Slip Stitch
inc: increase 1 stitch by working 2 stitches into the next stitch
dec: decrease 1 stitch by crocheting 2 stitches together

Assembly:

Begin with the eyes: Either insert safety eyes or embroider the eyes using Aran yarn with a French knot. (You find the explanation for this at the bottom of the blog.)
Then sew the beak below the eyes, attach the wings to the right and left sides of the body, and sew the feet to the bottom of the body.

Sew in all treads.

French Knot:
Bring the needle up through the work from back to front. Wrap the yarn around the needle 2–3 times, then insert the needle back down close to the entry point.
Keep the yarn slightly tensioned and carefully pull the needle through to form a small knot.
