Phone stand «Santa's helper»

Mittwoch, 17. Dezember 2025

At first glance, it's a very simple thing—a cell phone holder. But when you add a touch of magic, a little fairy-tale enchantment, and a dash of functionality, something truly special is created. These are the kinds of little miracles I love: ideas that blossom in my mind and take shape through my hands.

And perhaps this inspiration will awaken in you the desire to create your own loving gift for your family or friends—something that is not only useful, but also brings a smile to their faces.

You will need the following materials to crochet:

– alize simli 100 gr /460 m (red. I crocheted with this yarn using two strands together.)

– white cotton yarn 100 gr /400 m

– Crochet hook 2 mm (important, the size should match the yarn so that the stitches are even).

– needle, scissors, approximately 70 cm of wire, filler, cardboard bobbin or plastic napkin, metal weight.

Abbreviations:

ch – chain

sc – single crochet

inc – increase

dec – decrease, two single crochets together

First, we crochet the bag and form the basic structure at the same time—the assembly takes place step by step directly during crocheting.

Bag (red)

1. Crochet 6 sc in a Magic Ring

2. 6 inc = 12 sc

3. (1 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 18 sc

4. (2 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 24 sc

5. (3 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 30 sc

6. (4 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 36 sc

7. (5 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 42 sc

8. (6 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 48 sc

9. (7 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 54 sc

10. (8 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 60 sc

11. (9 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 66 sc

12. (10 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 72 sc

13. (11 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 78 sc

14 – 37 = 80 sc

38. Now we work the next round with openings for the cords.

(7 sc, crochet 3 ch and skip 3 stitches from the last round) х 8 = 78 sc

39 – 45. 78 sc

The last round is finished with white wool. If you wish, you can then add a decorative finishing round. There are two options for this:

Work single crochet stitches, alternating between the current stitch and a single crochet stitch two rows below.

This is perfect if you prefer a classic look or want to sew on additional elements later.

Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»' Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»' Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»'

Reverse single crochet: For a particularly decorative effect, you can crochet the finishing round in reverse single crochet. To do this, work single crochet stitches backwards, i.e., from left to right. This creates a slightly twisted, cord-like structure that gives the edge more stability and a pretty, handmade character.

I chose the first option and crocheted around the bag with tight stitches.

Close, cut the thread.

For the frame, I use a sturdy cardboard tube from a spool of thread. My tube measures 7 × 7 cm, making it an ideal base for the construction. I then pierce two holes in the center of the tube, right through to the other side—this is where the wire will later be inserted to give the whole thing additional stability.

This piece will be placed inside the bag, so you can either find one that fits the size of your finished bag, or make the frame from sturdy plastic instead.

Now, place the spool inside the bag and carefully poke a hole in the bag opposite the hole in the spool, so that you can thread the wire through.

You can use a knitting needle or crochet hook to gently open up the space between the stitches.

This way, the frame for the arms will fit snugly inside the construction.

Hands (2 pcs, white yarn)

Cast on 8 stitches and join to form a ring.

1 – 8 sc

Close, trim the thread. Leave a long end of the thread for further work.

Place these pieces on the wire. Sew to the bag section.

Next, we will build the frame for the palm.

First, we will shape the wire into an oval palm with a thumb, as shown in the photo. Make sure that the shape roughly corresponds to the desired size of the final hand. The thumb can stick out slightly to make the posture look more natural and to provide good support for the cell phone later on. Bend the wire without creating sharp kinks – this will keep the frame stable and maintain a nice, soft shape.

To avoid injury, I recommend securing the ends of the wire carefully. You can either bend them inwards or wrap them with adhesive tape. It is particularly good to cover the entire area of the ends with tape so that nothing scratches or pierces the bag later when crocheting or using it.

Gloves (red)

Thumb (2 pcs)

I mentioned the materials above, but just to repeat: in my case, I crocheted with this yarn held double.

1. Crochet 6 sc in a Magic Ring

2. 6 inc = 12 sc

Close, cut the thread.

Main part of the glove (2 pcs)

Chain 8 stitches, starting 2 stitches from the needle.

1. Crochet 6 sc, 3 in 1, 6 sc, 3 in 1 = 18 sc

2. 6 sc, 3 inc, 6 sc, 3 inc = 24 sc

3. 6 sc, (1 sc, 1 inc) х 3, 6 sc, (1 sc, 1 inc) х 3 = 30 sc

4 – 18 = 30 sc

Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»'

Now we connect the thumb to the main part.

For the left glove, we crochet the following rows as follows:

19. 14 sc, 6 sc together with the finger, 10 sc = 30 sc

20. 14 sc, 6 sc on the outer edge of the finger,, 10 sc = 30 sc

For the right glove, we crochet the following rows as follows:

19. 20 sc, 6 sc together with the finger, 4 sc = 30 sc

20. 20 sc, 6 sc on the outer edge of the finger, 4 sc = 30 sc

Continue crocheting both gloves evenly with the crochet hook.

21. 30 sc

22. (3 sc, 1 dec) х 6 = 24 sc

At this stage, we need to place this part on the frame. Add some filling material, but only a little, so that the hand can bend easily and the part can hold an object.

Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»' Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»'

Now we continue crocheting around the frame. It's a bit fiddly, but the end result is worth the effort.

23. (2 sc, 1 dec) х 6 = 18 sc

24. We only crochet into the front loop: 18 sc = 36 sc

In the photo, I have shown the back loop.  It will be useful to us later.

Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»'

25 – 28 = 36 sc

29. We make a fold and crochet through the remaining part of the stitches from row 24, 18 dec = 18 sc

Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»' Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»' Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»'

30. (1 sc, 1 dec) х 6 = 12 sc

Close, cut the thread.

Strings for the bag: Cast on 110 chain stitches with white yarn. I attached small bells to the ends.

Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»'

To ensure that your “Santa's Helper” stands securely and stably later on, you can place a small weight in the bottom of the bag. Metal granules, small decorative aquarium stones, or any other material that adds some weight and fits well in the bag are suitable for this purpose.

To prevent anything from slipping or pushing through the mesh, it is advisable to put the weight in a small separate bag beforehand – a small cloth bag, a piece of tightly knotted foil, or a small sack work wonderfully here. This keeps everything neatly packed and securely in place.

Now place this weight in the center of the bottom of the crocheted bag. Then you can stuff the rest of the interior with filling material until the bag is nice and plump and retains its shape. Make sure that the weight is well embedded and no longer wobbles.

Finally, pull the strings tight and close the bag. This ensures that the base of your construction is stable, secure, and ready for further assembly.

The assistant itself, the holder for the phone, is ready.

Now let's do something to create a festive atmosphere!

You will need the following materials to crochet:

– alize simli 100 gr /460 m (red. I crocheted with this yarn using two strands together.)

– white cotton yarn 100 gr /400 m

– Celebi peril kristal 100 gr/ 190 m (An equivalent to this yarn would be  YarnArt Jewel 50 gr /380 m)

– Crochet hook 2 mm (important, the size should match the yarn so that the stitches are even).

CHRISTMAS TREE

Cone, main section.

All rounds are crocheted into the back loop.

1. Crochet 6 sc in a Magic Ring

2. (1 sc, 1 inc) х 3 = 9 sc

3. 9 sc

4. (2 sc, 1 inc) х 3 = 12 sc

5. 12 sc

6. (3 sc, 1 inc) х 3 = 15 sc

7. 15 sc

8. (4 sc, 1 inc) х 3 = 18 sc

9. 18 sc

10. (5 sc, 1 inc) х 3 = 21 sc

11. 21 sc

12. (6 sc, 1 inc) х 3 = 24 sc

13. 24 sc

14. (7 sc, 1 inc) х 3 = 27 sc

15. 27 sc

Close, cut the thread.

Please take a look at the picture below. You will see that all stitches have been crocheted exclusively into the back loop.

Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»'

Now continue working into the front loops.

Attach the yarn to the tip of the cone.

Now crochet the branches into the remaining front loops around the cone.

You can work branches into every row – this will make the tree look particularly beautiful. I did every second row.

You can start with small branches. For example, I crocheted a row of 4 chain stitches, then worked 3 sc from the 2nd stitch, crocheted this small branch to the base with a sc and worked 2 more sc in the half stitches before moving on to the next branch. Again, 4 ch, 3 sc starting from the 2nd stitch, crocheted to the base. This creates branches of 4 ch with 2 sc in between.

Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»' Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»' Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»' Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»'

As we continue working down the spiral, we crochet the branches and extend them by 1 ch each time. At the same time, we increase the distance between the branches.

At this level, crochet a chain of 5 ch. In the 2nd stitch from the hook, crochet 4 sc and attach them at the base into the remaining half stitch. Crochet 3 sc into the half stitches until you reach the next branch. Work several branches at this level in this manner.

Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»' Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»' Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»'

At this level, crochet a chain of 6 ch. In the 2nd stitch from the needle, crochet 5 sc and attach the branch at the base in the remaining half stitch. Crochet 3 sc in the half stitches until you reach the next branch. You can see in the photo that I have arranged the branches in a staggered pattern (in a checkerboard pattern). Therefore, the distance between the branches can be 3 or 4 sc. Work several branches on this level in this way.

I then follow with rows of branches made from 7 ch, worked in the same rhythm.

From here on, you have free rein: it's entirely up to you how many branches you want on the tree.

Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»' Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»'

In the last round, I wanted to add short branches of 4 ch between the long branches of 8 or 9 ch. Then secure everything and cut the thread.

Now we can decorate the Christmas tree to your liking.

Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»'

Lollipop (2 parts)

1. Crochet 6 sc in a Magic Ring (white)

2. 6 inc = 12 sc (white)

3. ((1inc., 1 sc red), (1inc., 1 sc white) ) х 3 = 18 sc

For a nice color change, finish the stitch with the new color, as shown in the photo.

Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»' Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»' Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»'

4. ((1inc., 2 sc red), (1inc., 2 sc white) ) х 3 = 24 sc

5. ((1inc., 3 sc red), (1inc., 3 sc white) ) х 3 = 30 sc

6. ((1inc., 4 sc red), (1inc., 4 sc white) ) х 3 = 36 sc

7. ((1inc., 5 sc red), (1inc., 5 sc white) ) х 3 = 42 sc

8. ((1inc., 6 sc red), (1inc., 6 sc white) ) х 3 = 48 sc

9. (7 sc red, 7 sc white) х 3 = 48 sc

Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»'

Cut the thread. Leave a long end thread for sewing.

Place the two pieces on top of each other and sew them together with tight stitches all around. Then add the filling material.

Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»' Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»'

Make a small gather in the middle: pierce several times with the needle and pull the thread slightly. This creates a nice shape.

Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Phone stand «Santa's helper»'

I attached the lollipop and the small tree to the wooden skewers with a tiny drop of glue so that they would hold securely and not slip. You can use regular wooden skewers for this, but other sturdy sticks also work well—for example, cake pop sticks, thin bamboo sticks, or even cut-to-size pieces of wood from your craft supplies. The important thing is that the material is strong enough to hold the decoration securely.

Have you already thought about who you would like to give this little gift to?

Our “Santa's Helper” can do much more than just hold your cell phone—perhaps it can also carry your favorite mug with a warming winter drink or store little surprises for you that make everyday life a little more magical.

I am already excited to see what creative ideas you come up with for this hard-working little helper of Santa Claus and how you bring him to life in your own unique way.
