Halloween tealight ghost

A cute ghost by day, it transforms into a spooky Halloween decoration at night when the electric tea light is switched on. Among pumpkins, cobwebs, and bats, this tea light ghost complements any spooky arrangement.

The pattern for the "Halloween Tealight Ghost" is for private use only. They may not be sold, forwarded, reproduced, published, translated into other languages, exchanged with other instructions, modified, passed on as one's own pattern, or sold.

This guide is suitable for: beginners and advanced users

Abbreviations:

You should master these basic techniques:

Rnd        = round (It is crocheted in spiral rounds.)

MR         = magic ring

sc           = single crochet

hdc        = half double crochet

dc          = double crochet

inc         = increase (2 sc in 1 stitch)

(…) x?   = everything within the brackets is repeated as many times as specified after the x

At the beginning you will find the number of the respective round.

The number of stitches in the completed round is in the brackets at the end.

Required material:

Crochet hook:   NS 2,5 mm (If you use a different needle size and/or yarn, the size of the finished ghost may change and you may need to crochet more or fewer rounds.)

Yarn:   Cotton (50 g/125 m e.g. the “Catania” by Schachenmayr) in white and scraps in black (for embroidering the face)

Additional:   scissors, a needle for sewing and embroidery, a stitch marker (optional), a pin (optional, to mark the position of the eyes), and an electric tea light (!!!Not a real tea light due to fire hazard!!! approx. 3.7 cm in diameter, but larger tea lights are also possible - the ghost would then grow accordingly.)

PATTERN:

The finished Halloween tealight ghost, using the specified materials, measures approximately 6 cm in height and approximately 4 cm in width.

Ghost in White (The ghost is crocheted in rounds.):

1. Rnd:         6 sc in MR   (6)

2. Rnd:         inc x6   (12)

3. Rnd:         (1 sc, inc) x6   (18)

4. Rnd:         (2 sc, inc) x6   (24)

5. Rnd:         (3 sc, inc) x6   (30)

6. Rnd:         2 sc, inc, (4 sc, inc) x5, 2 sc   (36)

The diameter of your crocheted piece should now be one round wider than your tea light. If this isn't the case, you'll need to crochet fewer rounds, or add more rounds with increases. In the latter case, you'll need to make 6 increases in each round, as before, but these should ideally be staggered every other round (to maintain a round shape).

7.-21. Rnd:   36 sc (15 rounds)   (36)

You can, of course, vary the height of your Halloween ghost by adding more rounds. For example, if you use a maxi tealight holder, you will probably need to crochet at least 20 rounds or more to achieve an elongated shape.

22. Rnd:       (1 sc, 1 hdc, 2 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc) x6   (36)

Cut the thread, bring it through the next stitch to the inside and sew it in place with a sewing needle.

The body of your ghost tealight is now finished and ready for embroidery.

Finish:

Now embroider the eyes and mouth with black yarn (you can of course also use safety eyes, but you should heat their long stem with a lighter and flatten it).

For the eyes, between rounds 9 and 10, insert your needle from the inside of the ghost to the outside and embroider one eye over a length of 2 rounds with 4 repetitions. There are 3-4 visible single crochet stitches between the eyes.

For larger tea lights, the distance between the eyes must be adjusted accordingly.

The mouth is embroidered in the center, a circle below the eyes.

Of course, you can design your ghost's face however you like. How about a female ghost, for example, with eyelashes, eyebrows and rosy cheeks?

Now simply switch on the electric tea light at the bottom and place your ghost over it, being careful not to press in the crocheted piece.

Your Halloween decorative tea light ghost is finished!

Why not try crocheting a ghost using this pattern for a maxi tealight holder? You'll just need thicker yarn or you can crochet more rounds with increases. Or how about a ghost in a color other than white? ;-)
