SUPPLIES YOU NEED
ca 30 gr cotton yarn (e.g.Schachenmayr Catania 125m/50g) in three colors: green, white and red, crochet hook 2,5 mm, polyester fiberfill stuffing, chopstick or something similar to help with stuffing small parts, stitch marker, scissors, yarn needle, aluminium wire.
Using different materials and hook size to what is recommended may alter the final appearance of your amigurumi.
SKILL LEVEL
I would classify this free crochet pattern as an advanced beginner. It is necessary to have some experience with amigurumi before creating this project.
SIZE
The ready ornament is approx. 13 cm long, from bottom to top, can be made bigger or smaller depending on the yarn and hook you use.

TIPS
- Do not join rounds, work in a continuous spiral
- Place a stitch marker or a piece of yarn at the beginning stitch of the round and move it up at the start of each additional round
- This pattern doesn´t include any specific stitch tutorials
- All stitches are worked into both loops, unless stated otherwise in the pattern
- The number of stitches for completion is noted in parentheses at the end of each round
- When filling with polyester stuffing, pull apart each large chunk into many smaller chunks. This ensures an even distribution of firmness within the amigurumi
- Amigurumi can be made in any desired colors
- The pattern is written in English using US crochet terminology
Seamless way of changing color when working in the round
Pick up the new color at the end of the round: inset your hook into the stitch, yarn over the new color and pull through the stitch and the loop on your hook to complete the stitch.
To make a magic ring
- Loop the thread twice around your middle finger
- Put the hook under both loops, pull the yarn under the loops and hook the thread again
- Pull the thread through the new loop. The first crochet stitch is ready!
- Repeat the number of times needed.
- Pull the inner threads to tighten the ring.
INSTRUCTIONS
CANDY CANES
Have you ever heard of the Legend of the Candy Cane? Tell me if you already know.
VARIANT 1
This candy cane is worked seamlessly in the round from the top down, using single crochet stitches.
Round 1: 6 single crochets into Magic Ring
Round 2: increase 6 times (12 stitches)
Round 3: single crochet in each of next 12 stitches
Change the yarn color to white
Work the next round with white color yarn: single crochet in each of next 12 stitches.
The pattern alternates between red and white yarn. Switch colors every round. Worked in continuous rounds, DO NOT join with a slip stitch between rounds.
Repeat until your piece measures about 13 cm.
Fill in the candy cane with fiberfill. Cut a length of aluminum wire of about 26 cm. Fold it in half and twist the two halves around each other so that they stay firmly together. Push the wire all the way through the candy cane and cut any extra wire sticking out.
In the next round *decrease* 6 times.
Fasten off and sew the last 6 stitches close. Weave in all your ends. Finally, model your candy cane by bending the aluminum wire.
VARIANT 2
Work using red and white colored yarn.
Chain 53 stitches. With this ammount of stitches the Candy Cane will be approx. 12 cm long. You can change the size of the Candy Cane by increasing or decreasing these starting chain stitches.
Double crochet in the 4th stitch from the hook, 2 double crochets in the same stitch, 3 double crochets in each of the remaining stitches. With these stitches the coils will form automatically.
Wrap both the pieces around each other. See to it that the colors alternate each other. Weave in the yarn ends.
Cut out a piece of floral wire around 12 cm. Insert the wire through center from one end to other end of the candy cane and shape it accordingly.
WREATH
Work using green and white colored yarn.
In green: Chain 73 stitches, double crochet in the 4th stitch from the hook, 3 double crochets in each of the remaining stitches. With these stitches the coils will form automatically.
You can change the size of the Candy Cane by increasing or decreasing these starting chain stitches.
Work with white color the same way:
In white: Chain 73 stitches, double crochet in the 4th stitch from the hook, 3 double crochets in each of the remaining stitches. With these stitches the coils will form automatically.
Wrap both the pieces around each other. See to it that the colors alternate each other. Weave in the yarn ends.
BOW
Crochet a decorative bow. The simplest way to make a bow is to crochet a some rows to make a small rectangle. Then cinch the center to create the classic bow shape. Work using red colored yarn.
Chain 35 stitches, joing for crocheting in rounds with a slip stitch.
Rounds 1-5: chain 2 stitches, half double crochet in each of next stitches till the end of the round.
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Create the bow shape as shown on pic above. Wrap the yarn around the crochet piece in the center several times cinching it into a bow shape. You might need more yarn wraps around the center to achieve a nice aesthetic. Attach the bow to the wreath. Secure yarn and weave in ends.
