Bee dress for a small doll

The dress is suitable for a small doll. I have a 16cm tall articulated doll.

Materials:

You can choose yarn at your discretion, with similar color, composition and thickness. Acrylic or cotton will do. Yarn consumption depends on its thickness and a crochet hook size. My dress consumed: around 10g of yellow colour yarn, 3g of other colours.

I used 100% acrylic yarn, 400 m/100 g, 1,5 mm crochet hook.

Colors: yellow, brown and white.

- A crochet hook, I used a 1,5 mm crochet hook

- A sewing needle, matching sewing threads

- 3 small buttons

Abbreviations:

ch – chain

st - stitch

sl st – slip stitch

sc – single crochet

hdc – half double crochet

dc - double crochet

tr - treble crochet

inc – increase (2 sc in 1 st)

dec – decrease (single crochet two stitches together)

(...) x N times – repeat instructions in brackets N times

Work with yellow colour yarn. Crochet in rows.

Since we crochet in rows, we make the decreases in both stitch links so that the stitches are not deformed.

Start with the back of the dress.

Work 16 ch.

Row 1. starting from the 2nd ch from the hook: 15 sc, 1 ch, turn = 15

Row 2. 15 sc, 1 ch, turn = 15

Change to brown yarn.

Row 3. 1 inc, 6 sc, 1 inc, 6 sc, 1 inc, 1 ch, turn = 18

Row 4. 18 sc, 1 ch, turn = 18

Change to yellow yarn.

Row 5. 1 inc, 4 sc, 1 inc, 6 sc, 1 inc, 4 sc, 1 inc, 1 ch, turn = 22

Fold the dress in half and sew the sleeves and sides together. Turn right side out. Sew 3 little buttons on.

Hood

Work with yellow colour yarn. Work in rows.

Work 49 ch

Fold the hood in half. Work sc to point A hooking through both sides of the hood. 

Fasten off, cut off, cut off leaving a tail for further sewing.

Turn the hood right side out, leaving the seam on the inside.

Attach the hood to the dress with some dressmaking pins along the neckline. Sew it on.

Mustache (make 2)

Crochet with brown colour yarn in 2 additions.

Row 1. work 9 ch, starting from 3rd ch from hook: 2 hdc in 1 loop, 6 sl st = 8

Fasten off, cut the thread, leaving long tail for sewing.

Attach the mustache and sew them to the hood.

Wings (make 2)

Work with white colour yarn. Work in rows. See the pictures for guidance.

Before starting crocheting, leave a tail of yarn for further operation, about 80cm long.

Row 1. work 3 ch, starting from 2nd ch from hook: 2 sc, turn

Row 2. 3 ch, 1 dc, 1 ch, 1 dc, turn

Row 3. 4 ch, skip 1 stitch, 2 dc in 1 loop, 1 ch, skip 1 stitch, 1 dc, turn

Row 4. 4 ch, skip 1 stitch, 1 dc, 1 ch, 1 dc, 1 ch, skip 1 stitch, 1 dc, turn

Row 5. 4 ch, skip 1 stitch, 1 dc, 1 ch, 1 dc, 2 ch, skip 1 stitch, 1 dc, turn

Row 6. 6 ch, skip 1 stitch, 1 tr, 2 ch, skip 1 stitch, 1 dc, 1 ch, 1 dc, skip 1 stitch, 1 dc.

Fasten off, cut off.

Take a length of yarn that you left unworked previously and work sc around the wing. 2nd wing should mirror 1st wing, turn it over before working sc around it. Crocheting direction is marked with an arrow on the photo.

Sew wings to the back of the dress.

The little bee dress is completed!
