Blog-Inhaltsbild für 'Free Crochet Pattern – Amigurumi Halloween Bat'

Halloween is just around the corner, and what would this spooky season be without some fun handmade decorations? With this cute little bat, you can add the perfect touch of Halloween charm to your home. Whether you hang it up, place it on your autumn table, or use it as part of a larger Halloween display, this cheerful bat is sure to catch everyone’s eye.

The pattern is also a great project for using up leftover yarn – you only need small amounts in two colors. And don’t worry if you’re new to crocheting amigurumi: the step-by-step instructions will guide you through the process in detail, so you’ll have a finished bat in no time. With its funny wings, pointy ears, and silly eyes, this little bat makes for a playful decoration that is just the right mix of spooky and cute.

So grab your yarn, hook, and a bit of stuffing, and let’s crochet your very own Halloween bat – the perfect companion for pumpkins, ghosts, and all things autumn!

Preparation

Materials:

  • Yarn with matching crochet hook in 2 colors

  • Stitch marker or a piece of contrasting thread

  • Fiberfill stuffing

  • Oval wiggly eyes, 1 cm

  • Optional: embroidery thread in a contrasting color for decorations

Abbreviations (US terms):

  • sc = single crochet

  • tog = together (sc 2 tog = decrease)

  • inc = increase (2 sc in same st)

  • ch = chain

  • sl st = slip stitch

  • tch = turning chain

  • st = stitch

  • hdc = half double crochet

  • dc = double crochet

  • tr = treble crochet

Notes:

Unless otherwise stated, all parts are worked in continuous rounds (spiral rounds), even if the instructions say something like “3 rounds sc.”

The number before each step indicates the round/row number.

The number in parentheses at the end of each round/row shows the stitch count for that round.

Assembly

For the right wing, place the secondary-color piece on top of the main-color piece.
Insert a loop of yarn (main color) at the top of the wing through both pieces and secure with a chain. Then crochet single crochets counter-clockwise around the edge, always inserting the hook through both wing layers to join them (see picture 1).

Continue with sc until you reach the left wing tip (pic 2).

  • Ch 4 (pic 3).

  • Work 3 sc into the chains (starting from 2nd ch from hook).

  • Attach with a sl st into the same stitch that joined the two wing pieces last (pic 4).

Continue with 3 sc until you reach the first treble crochet.

  • Make another small tip: ch 3, work 2 sc into chains, sl st to secure.

  • Continue with sc until the 2nd wing curve.

  • Again: ch 3, 2 sc into chains, sl st to secure, then sc along the edge to finish.

Fasten off and pull yarn through loop.

For the left wing, start joining the pieces from the lower side, working clockwise. Add the 4-ch tip at the wing tip, and 3-ch tips at the two wing curves, the same way as before.

The wings should now look like this (all yarn ends can simply be hidden inside the wings).

With a few whip stitches, sew a seam in the main color across the wing. You can decide whether to stitch only through the front (contrasting) piece or through both layers (which gives the wing extra stability).

Now the wings are finished. Sew the head onto the body (they end with the same stitch count, so nothing special to consider).

Sew the wings just below the head, slightly offset toward the back.

Then attach the legs…

Time to decorate! You can embroider little claws, a belly button, or a face. For a fun look, these bats have wiggly eyes and tiny fangs.
