DC: Double Crochet
SS: Slip Stitch

Infos for the pattern:

  • The starting chain stitches are counted as stitches.
  • This pattern is perfect for using up leftover yarn and makes a great gift or souvenir.
  • Starting from the 3rd row, each row begins in a corner with 3 double crochets, where the first double crochet is replaced by the 3 chain stitches.
  • From the 3rd row onwards, each row ends with 3 double crochets, 2 chain stitches in the first corner, and a slip stitch into the top of the 3 starting chain stitches.
  • Each row has 4 additional double crochets per side, with 2 more double crochets before and after skipping 2 stitches.
  • The piece has 5 sides, so the process is repeated 4 times.
  • In the pattern, the starting chain stitches are not mentioned separately; the very first double crochet of the round simply replaces them.
  • The pot protector can be made in a single colour or in different colours. To do this, simply start each row with a new colour.
  • Make sure the first double crochet after the corner is placed correctly, as the previous stitch can easily get hidden under the 3 double crochets in the corner. This is especially important for the very first double crochet of the round, since the starting chain is counted as the first double crochet. Starting from the 3rd row, the first double crochet after the group of 3 must be worked into the top of the 3rd chain from the previous round.

The Pot Protector:

Let's get started:
1. Round:
Start with 4 chain stitches and close them to the round with a slip stitch.
Then work 5 chain stitches and into the chain space, crochet 4 times **1 dc, 2 ch** (creating 5 corners).
Close the round with a slip stitch into the 3rd chain stitch from the beginning.

2. Round:
Work 3 dc, 2 ch, 3 dc in each corner.
(The first double crochet is replaced by 3 chain stitches, and the round is closed with a slip stitch into the top of the 3 chain stitches at the beginning)
Cut the yarn, as it will be reattached in the next round to make starting all following rounds easier.

3. Round:
