Free Crochet Pattern for Goose

This sweet colorful goose will brighten up a loved one´s day! It will become an inseparable friend! A great gift, also perfect as a decoration. You can make it in any desired colours.

MATERIAL

ca 50 gr Schachenmayr Catania 50 g/137 yds, Sport Yarn, 5ply in 3 colours: orange, beige or grey and blue, a bit of white, crochet hook C, polyester fiber fill stuffing, two black beads or little safety eyes, 2 buttons, sewing needle, scissors.

The ready goose is approx. 29 cm. Please note that this size may vary depends on the yarn and crochet hook size used.

TIPPS

• Do not join rounds, work in a continuous spiral.
• Use a stitch marker or a piece of yarn to mark the end or the beginning of a round
• All stitches are worked into both loops, unless stated otherwise in the pattern.
• Can be made in any desired colours.

Seamsless way of changing color when working in the round

Pick up the new color at the end of the round: inset your hook into the stitch, yarn over the new color and pull through the stitch and the loop on your hook to complete the stitch.

INSTRUCTIONS

HEAD and BODY

Use grey or beige color yarn, begin with magic ring.

Rnd 1: 6 sc into Magic Ring.

Rnd 2: inc 6 times (12 stitches)

Rnd 3: *sc in next st, inc* (18 stitches).

Rnd 4: *sc in each of next 2 sts, inc* (24 stitches).

Rnd 5: *sc in each of next 3 sts, inc* (30 stitches).

Rnd 54: *sc in each of next 3 sts, inc* (30 stitches).

Rnd 55: *sc in each of next 4 sts, inc* (36 stitches).

Rnd 65: *dec, sc in each of next 5 sts* (36 sts)

Stuff firmly.

Rnd 68: *dec, sc in each of next 2 sts* (18 sts)

Cast off. Hide yarn tail into head after finish.

FEET

Use orange color for the feet of the goose and beige or grey for the legs.

3 tips:

Rnd 1: 6 sc into Magic Ring.

Rnd 2: *sc in next st, inc* (9 M)

Rnd 3: sc in each of next 9 sts

Cast off. Third tip don´t cast off.

Rnd 4: crochet one Rnd over all tips of the foot (27 sts).

Rnd 5: sc in each of next 27 sts

Rnd 6: *dec, sc in each of next 7 sts* (24 sts)

Rnd 7: sc in each of next 24 sts

Rnd 8: *dec, sc in each of next 2 sts* (18 sts)

Rnd 9: sc in each of next 18 sts

Change the color

Rnd 12-21: sc in each of next 12 sts.

Add small ammount of stuffing into the legs.

Cast off leaving a long tail for sewing feet to the body.

Rnd 1: 6 sc into Magic Ring.

Rnd 2: sc in each of next 6 sts

Rnd 4: sc in each of next 9 sts

Rnd 5: *sc in each of next 2 sts, inc* (12 sts)

Rnd 6: sc in each of next 12 sts

Rnd 8: sc in each of next 15 sts

Rnd 9: *sc in each of next 4 sts, inc* (18 sts)

BEAK

Work with orange color yarn.

Rnd 1: chain 6 stitches

Rnd 2: inc, sc in the next st, 3 sc in the next st, sc in the next st, inc, then, working in the other side of  foundation ch: sc in each of next 5 sts (14 stitches), don´t turn the work but continue crocheting in the round.

Rnd 3: inc, sc in each of next 3 sts, 3 sc in the next st, sc in each of next 3 sts, inc, sc in each of next 5 sts (18 stitches)

Rnd 4: sc in each of next 18 sts

Rnd 5:  sc in each of next 6 sts, 3 sc in the next st, sc in each of next 11 sts (20 stitches)

Rnd 6: sc in each of next 20 sts

Cast off leaving a long tail for sewing to the head of the goose.

CAP

Rnd 1: Chain 4 stitches, join with slip stitch into a ring. Chain 3 stitches, 11 dc into the ring, slip stitch (12 stitches)

Rnd 2: ch3, dc in the same st as ch, 2 dc in each of next 11 sts, sl st to top of ch 3 (24 stitches)

Rnd 3: ch 3, dc in the same st as ch, dc in next st, *2 dc in next st, dc in next st*, repeat from*to* 11 times, sl st to top of ch 3 (36 stitches)

Rnd 4 (working in the back loop): dc in each of next 36 stitches

Change the color

Rnd 5: sc in each of next 36 stitches

Change the color

Rnd 6: sc in each of next 24 stitches, chain 1 st, turn the work, 

sc in each of next 12 stitches, chain 1 st, turn the work, 

dec, sc in each of next 8 stitches, dec, don´t turn the work,

chain 1 stitch, sl st in each of next 3 sts, sc in each of next 12 sts. 

Cast off leaving a long tail for sewing.

ASSEMBLY

Using yarn needle sew beak to the head of the goose. Decide where you will position eyes and sew them to the head of your sweet friend.

Sew feet and wings to the body.

Sew the cap on the top of the head.

Now sew buttons on the body of your goose. Ready!
