Caterpillar cover or case

Materials

– Camtex Khlopok Travka 50 g/80 m or any alternative type fluffy yarn or mohair (light green/mint)

– YarnArt Jeans 50 g /160 m (green, light green, brown)

– 1,75 mm crochet hook

-  a sewing needle, a pair of scissors, hollow fiber, transparent all-purpose glue, a piece of white felt and 2 small half-beads for the eyes, a small piece of hook & loop tape, a few dressmaking pins

BODY:

Start with fluffy yarn

1. Crochet 6 sc in a ring

2. 6 inc = 12 sc

3. (1inc, 1 sc) х 6 = 18

4. (1inc, 2 sc) х 6 = 24

5. (1inc, 3 sc) х 6 = 30

6. (1inc, 4 sc) х 6 = 36

7. (1inc, 5 sc) х 6 = 42

Change to smooth yarn (green colour).

Nose

With smooth yarn (green colour):

7. (1 dec, 1 sc) х 6 = 12

Stuff lightly.

8. 6 dec = 6

Bind off. Cut off.

Mouth:

With smooth yarn (light green colour) ch 10. Starting from the 2nd ch from hook work 3 sc, 3 hdc, 3 sc 

Bind off. Cut off, leave a small length of thread for further sewing.

Eyebrow (2psc)

With smooth yarn (light green colour) ch 16. Starting from 2nd ch from hook work 5 sc, 5 hdc, 5 sc 

Bind off. Cut off, leave a small length of thread for further sewing.

LEG (2pcs)

With smooth yarn (brown colour) ch 65. Starting from 2nd ch from hook work 2 sc, ch 7, work 6 sc along this new chain, 12 sc along the main chain, ch 7, work 6 sc along this new chain, 12 sc along the main chain,  ch 7, work 6 sc along this new chain, 15 sc along the main chain,  ch 7, work 6 sc along this new chain, 10 sc along the main chain,  ch 7, work 6 sc along this new chain, 10 sc along the main chain,  ch 7, work 6 sc along this new chain, 2 sc along the main chain,  

Thus you will get 6 legs.

Bind off. Cut off, leave a small length of thread for further sewing.

ASSEMBLY AND SCULPTING

Eyes: count 16 rounds down from the top of the head, find the centre of the ‘face’. From the centre count 3 stiches to the left and insert a dressmaking pin No1. Again from the centre count 3 stitches to the right and insert a dressmaking pin No 2. These are the inner sides of the eye pits between the lower part of the eyes and the cheeks. Now count a further 4 stiches to the left from the dressmaking pin No 1. Insert a dressmaking pin No 3. Do the same for the other side. Insert the dressmaking pin No 4.  These are the outer sides of the eye pits between the lower part of the eyes and the cheeks. See pictures for guidance. To sculpt the place between the eyes and the cheeks use a piece of smooth yarn (light green colour) and a needle. Insert the needle in Marker No 4 from the inside, take it out and insert the needle in Marker No 2 from the outside. Take the needle out in Marker No 1 and insert it in Marker No 3. Tighten and make a knot. Cut off.

Attach the nose and sew it on.

Attach the mouth and sew it on.

Cut out two circles from a piece of white felt. Glue those on. Glue on two half - beads. See pictures for guidance.

Attach the eyebrows and sew them on.

Attach the legs and sew them on.

Attach hoop & loop tape and sew it on as shown.

Handle (optional)

With smooth yarn (green colour) ch 70. From the 2nd ch from  hook work 69 hdc

Bind off. Cut off, leave a small length of thread for further sewing. Attach the handle to the back of the neck and sew it on.
