Elephant - pillow for playing and sleeping

Materials

– YarnArt Dolce 100g/120 m (5 skeins of the main color yarn, 1 - additional color) or any other suitable soft yarn

– 5mm crochet hook

– a pair of scissors, needle, hollow fiber stuffing

The size of the pillow is approximately (50 cm x 40 cm) 19.68 "x 15.74".

Abbreviations:

ch – chain

sc – single crochet

inc – increase

dec - decrease, two single crochets together

Pillow - body

ch 60

1. Starting from the 2nd ch from the hook, crochet 58 sc, 3 sc in one, 58 sc, 3 sc in one = 122

2. 58 sc, 3 inc, 58 sc, 3 inc = 128

3. inc, 58 sc, (1 sc, inc) х 3, 58 sc, (1 sc, inc) х 2, 1 sc = 134

4. 2 sc, 58 sc, (inc, 2 sc) х 3, 58 sc, (inc, 2 sc) х 2, inc = 140

5 – 7 = 140

8. 3 sc, 58 sc, (inc, 3 sc) х 3, 58 sc, (inc, 3 sc) х 2, inc = 146

Leg (make two)

Fold the body as shown on the picture above. Count 25 stiches forward from the folded side. Place marker No.1 . Count 24 stitches backward from the folded side. Place marker No.2.

Do the same for the second leg.

For the first leg: From where you finished the previous round crochet outstanding number of stiches (around 12-15) until you’ve reached marker No.1. Ch1. Hook through the loop on the opposite side where you’ve got marker No.2, make a sc. Continue crocheting  till you’ve reached marker No.1 = 50

2 – 12 = 50

Change to an additional colour yarn.

13 – 17 = 50

Bind off. Leave a long enough yarn tail for sewing. 

Place the auricle in the middle of the ear as shown on the picture and sew on.

Embroider the ‘nails’ on the legs as shown below.

Embroider the eyes.  I decided to make a female elephant with eyes shut.

Sew on the ears and trunk.

Add some more stuffing to the belly and sew the hole.

Tail

Find the right position for the tail. Hook trough a loop on the body.  Ch 12 – 15.

The elephant - pillow for your beloved little kid is now completed!
