Heart „Winter Romance“ – free crochet pattern

My dears, 
I have to admit, I honestly enjoy winter time – cozy nights at home with your most comfy warm socks, a cup of hot cocoa and a lot of relaxation. If that warms the cockles of your heart just as much as mine, I would like invite you to crochet this little heart “Winter Romance” with me.

We are going to need the following material:

• Any type of yarn in red (4 ply, 137 yds / 1.75 oz or 125 m / 50 g) and a small amount of crochet thread in white (2 ply, 612 yds / 3.22 oz or 560 m / 100 g) with 2 crochet hooks, sizes 3.5 and 2.5
   
• or crochet thread in red and a small amount of white (2 ply, 612 yds / 3.22 oz or 560 m / 100 g) with a crochet hook size 1.5
  (you may, of course, also use any other type of yarn and crochet hook in matching size)
   
• Polyester fiberfill
   
• A Sewing needle,
   
• approx. 20 pins,
   
• and some white sewing thread

And the following stitches:
This pattern is written in US terms, but for easier handling I have attached a conversion table for US/UK terms

Before we begin, please let me add:

1) The bigger heart is worked with 4 ply yarn and a 3.5 hook and its snowflake with the 2 ply yarn and the 2.5 hook. For the small heart, I have only used the 2 ply yarn along with a 1.5 hook

2) This project is worked in spiral rounds, which means that the rounds are NOT connected by a slip stitch at the end of each round but just worked continuously without any visible break between the rounds. To mark the beginning/end of a round, you can use, for example, a stitch marker, a safety pin or a short piece of yarn in a different color.

Chapter 1 – The 2 tops

We are working the heart from top to bottom which means we will begin working the 2 little “corners” at the top separately at first and then joining them.

1st piece: fasten off, weave in all ends
2nd piece: do NOT fasten off as we will be using this thread to continue

Chapter 2 – Joining the tops and continuing with the „body“ of the heart

In the 7th round, we will now crochet these two pieces together by using the loop of the 2nd piece (not fastened off) to first work 30 sc into the 1st piece (which was fastened off) and then work 30 sc into the 2nd piece, which will make a total of 60 stitches for this round

7. Rd.:                     60 sc (60) 

Chapter 3 – The snowflake for the big heart 

For this snowflake we will be using the with 2ply yarn and the 2.5 hook 

Fasten off, weave in all ends

Now we place the snowflake on the heart and use the pins to temporarily fixate it and pull all corners into the right position.
Then we sew the snowflake onto the heart using white sewing thread and a small sewing needle.

Chapter 4 – The Snowflake for the small heart

Since the small heart is too small for the crochet snowflake of chapter 3, we will simply stitch the snowflake onto the front using the 2 ply white thread and a sewing needle.
Just follow the chart below to make your stitches:
