Looking for a pattern with granny squares that are only joined together at the very end

Hi!

I’m looking for a pattern for a sweater, jacket, or dress made of granny squares that are crocheted together at the very end with a loose pattern in between. I don’t want to have to crochet the granny squares together continuously, since I sometimes crochet one while I’m out and about. Also, the granny squares shouldn’t be crocheted together tightly along the edges like a blanket or something—I want it to look a bit like a lace pattern.

I’ve searched and searched, but I can’t find anything that fits the bill; all the patterns I find require you to crochet the squares together as the project grows.

Hopefully I’ve explained myself clearly enough and you can help me.

have you ever just searched for “granny” on CP?
There are quite a few suggestions there, including sweaters that aren’t joined together until the very end.

Maybe you’ll find something suitable there.
