Hi,
my better half would like a very, very long striped scarf for the winter. Not an infinity scarf, but a real scarf. It should be long, fairly wide, and feature lots of colors. I won’t be joining in if it’s a knitting pattern, but if a crochet pattern comes up, I might even join in. We might even end up crocheting two scarves—one for her and one for me. Since one or two really long striped scarves aren’t something you can crochet in a single day, I—or rather, we—would appreciate a tip for a good pattern.
Does anyone happen to be working on a pattern like that right now?
Thanks
Richard
I’d use a gradient yarn. There are so many great color combinations available these days. The advantage is that you don’t have to change colors, so you don’t have to weave in any ends either :)
I’d crochet the whole thing using double crochet or half double crochet—that makes it looser and fluffier. It also depends, though, on how tight or loose you crochet. You’ll just have to try it out for a few rows to see what you like better.
I’d also prefer the variegated yarn, for the reasons mentioned above. :)
If you’d rather crochet without color gradients—that is, with clearly defined colors—I wouldn’t weave in the ends, but would intentionally leave them hanging a bit longer on the sides. Tied securely, of course. This will result in a scarf with fringes along the long side. To make it look even, you might need to add a few extra fringes at the end.
Yarn with a color gradient for a pretty scarf without having to weave in ends—that sounds great to me.
Hopefully, they also produce this gradient yarn in shades of blue. :-)
Thanks, everyone
