Help with crochet translation

I’m currently trying to translate a crochet pattern. My nephew’s birthday is coming up soon, and he’s a huge Super Mario fan!

I’m having a bit of trouble understanding this part… Hope you can help me :)

Round 1: do not join, do not ch 1
Round 2: remaining 2 sc
and: F/O and tie the 2 ends together, creating a slight curve (ear shape)

2 single crochets in the next 2 stitches, then bind off and tie the 2 ends together to create

a slight curve. I made Mario too—if you do it this way, everything will work out.

No, I just crocheted that one. It was a birthday present back then
