Signs of Spring

Hi, I’m new here and I’m at my wits’ end. I downloaded the pattern for the “Harbinger of Spring” and I just can’t figure it out. Take the head, for example. Everything’s fine up to row 6, but starting with row 7, I’m completely lost. It says 6 sc (1 inc, 1 sc) * 3, 12 sc (1 inc, 1 sc) * 3, 6 sc (42 sts)—what does that mean????????????? I’ve never seen patterns like this before. It would be great if you could help me. I’m waiting for your feedback—thanks in advance. Best regards, Angela

you do what’s in the parentheses a total of 3 times....that means

6 sc, 1 increase (increase = 2 sc in one stitch), 1 sc, 1 increase, 1 sc, 1 increase, 1 sc, 12 sc, 1 increase, 1 sc, 1 increase, 1 sc, 1 increase, 1 sc, 6 sc (42). I hope that makes it clearer.
