Learning to Crochet

Hi,

I'm new here. I stumbled upon your site by chance on Google. I'm in the process of learning to crochet. Can I get some help here? I just started learning to crochet yesterday )))). I hear I still have a long way to go. I hope that once I'm done learning, I'll be able to crochet lots of great things like the ones here on my own. Where would be the best place for me to start here?

Thanks!
Best regards, Anna

Hi Omis Häkelstübchen and Alexander,

Thanks for the tips :). I had no idea there were free patterns here. I’ve also discovered the blog in the meantime. There’s so much to read. Now I just need enough patience :)) I’ll keep trying.

Best regards, Anna

@Anna, what’s giving you trouble right now? The crochet stitches, the yarn, or the crochet hook?

Well, just generally speaking.
To learn to crochet, you don’t need much
—just a crochet hook and some matching yarn, and then either someone to show you how it’s done
or a YouTube video or a beginner tutorial
. That’s all you need.
The best thing about crocheting is that there’s only one hook and not several
, and that the hook has a hook at the tip so the yarn can’t slip off
, and the crocheted piece doesn’t come apart as easily as knitted fabric if you happen to lose a stitch.

Anna might not be reading this anymore, but there are a lot of beginner crocheters here, so I wanted to write this down again.

You’ll pick up the basics quickly, and you’ll learn chain stitches and single crochet in no time—and with those, you can make, for example, a pot holder, a scarf, or even an amigurumi. Of course, you can also just make long chains if you want to.
So you don’t have to spend forever learning and practicing before you start making
progress. Of course, you have to remember the turning chains and also that your stitches might not be quite as even at first, but yarn is patient. Good-quality yarn can also be unraveled and re-crocheted.

You can also easily carry your crochet supplies with you in a bag or something. Since it’s not a big deal if the hook slips out, it’s no problem to put your crochet project in your purse.

Crocheting is fun and satisfying—you get to make something with your own hands. If you’re busy, you might not snack as much, and you can listen to music or watch TV while you work. Well, maybe not right at the very beginning—you have to focus on the stitches then—but later on, it works out just fine. Although I personally don’t really like that much, but that’s just a matter of taste.

Hi!

I have a problem: I bought some used crochet hooks on eBay, but the size information (or rather, the thickness) is no longer legible because it was printed on the handle and has probably worn off.
What should I do now? How can I figure out the thickness?

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,

Hello and a very warm welcome

so if you're this new to it... I can highly recommend my crochet-learning blog to you...

I started it 3 weeks ago, and every week a new topic is added to help you learn crochet... it's a mix of theory and crochet projects. Maybe a good addition to the crochet-learning pattern by mützekatze

here's the link to the first post — that's where you start https://www.crazypatterns.net/de/blog/235/liebe-zum-haekeln
from there you can keep clicking on :)

Best, Nicole
