Sweater, cardigan without seams, knitted from the top down

Dear knitters, can anyone help me? A colleague of mine now only knits cardigans and sweaters without seams, starting from the top. But it’s not raglan! She has now sent me an English pattern, and I definitely don’t understand enough of it. Does anyone have a corresponding pattern? I’m really curious about how this works and would love to try it out. Thanks for any help!

have you tried searching for, for example, “sweater knitted from the top down” or “poncho knitted from the top down”?

I could imagine something like this working with a circular yoke, where stitches are increased not along the raglan lines but evenly distributed throughout the pattern. Some Norwegian sweaters are made this way. I haven’t found anything like that in the patterns yet, but if you Google “Marius sweater,” you can see what I mean. Of course, this also works without a Norwegian pattern.

Christina, try searching for “knitting a circular yoke” or just “circular yoke.” There are plenty of examples out there—maybe even here on CP.

You’ve actually given me an idea. I used to knit Norwegian sweaters a lot. I really love the ones with a circular yoke and, for example, a pretty lace pattern.

That’ll definitely be one of my next projects. I love learning new things and will definitely do some in-depth research on this.
