I don’t understand the pattern!!

Hi everyone.

I’m still a beginner at crocheting and am currently working on animals. I’ve already managed to make one, but I’m having trouble with the second one.

It’s supposed to be an aardvark, and the pattern for the ears says:
First, crochet 10 chain stitches into a ring
Rounds 1–4: single crochet

I know that “lm” stands for “chain stitch,” but I’m wondering how you’re supposed to crochet a chain-stitch ring without using a slip stitch to close it. I only know how to do it with slip stitches. I’ve also looked at other animals with similar ears for comparison, and everywhere it says to close the chain stitches with a slip stitch—just not for the aardvark. It only says what’s mentioned above.

So is there another way to crochet chain stitches into a ring?

I hope you can help me.

Best regards
Shavi

I think it’s supposed to be closed into a circle with a slip stitch.
Many designers assume you’ll close the circle, but they don’t realize that it’s really important for a beginner to have EVERY step described.

Hi. If you feel more confident, go ahead and use a slip stitch.

But I’m guessing you’re supposed to crochet in spiral rounds, and that’s done without a slip stitch. In that case, after the last chain stitch, you simply crochet 1 single crochet into the first chain stitch.

Best regards, Nicole

I would join the chain stitches into a round with a slip stitch
and then continue crocheting in spiral rounds. Best, Marion

Hello everyone,
does anyone know about crochet charts? I bought a crochet pattern for a hobby horse, and starting from the 3rd round it suddenly says this.                                 At the end of the second round I have a total of 20 sc

2. 4 sc, 3 sc inc, 4 sc, 3 sc inc (20)                       4 sc (1 sc, increase once)x3 4 sc (1 sc, increase once)x3 (26)                                             4 sc (2 sc, increase once)x3 4 sc (2 sc, increase once)x3 (32)                                   I don't understand how I’m supposed to crochet this. I hope someone can help me                      Thanks in advance.                 Best, Tina

Hello Tina,
welcome to our forum and to the platform. Please be a little patient with our experts; sometimes it can take a bit longer to get an answer, since the experts often also have a job, family, etc., and therefore can’t sit in front of the PC 24/7. Please don’t create any more duplicate posts about your question.
We still need some information about your question:
Which pattern is it? Who is the provider of the pattern? Have you already contacted the author about your question? If you tell me the author’s name, I can contact the author and ask them to answer your question.
