Waffle stitch patterns are all the rage. Have you tried them yet?
Tell me about it.

Hi Josefa,

The waffle stitch isn’t just trendy—it’s also super easy.

For flat items like blankets, pot holders, etc., one right side row and one wrong side row are usually enough.

Right side row: 1 post double crochet worked from the front, 2 regular double crochets

Wrong side row: 2 post double crochets worked from the front, 1 regular double crochet

If you want the pattern to run horizontally, to crochet from the inside out (for a nice color gradient, for example), or to create a triangle or star, you’ll need to increase stitches. This can be a bit trickier, but luckily, with the waffle stitch, you can easily follow the shape of your work and don’t need to constantly refer to the pattern.

  Plus, you can really make anything with it. I’m a self-confessed waffle stitch junkie.
:-D

I’ve never crocheted the waffle pattern before.

Now I’m going to give it a try—thanks, Birgit, for the brief instructions :-)

You can also knit waffle patterns. They’re actually quite simple.
You only need knit and purl stitches.
I knitted this stitch pattern for my blanket.

Could we turn this thread into a project thread, or would that be short-lived?

I’ve now tried the waffle stitch—it’s really super easy and looks great.

@Josepha
Since hardly anyone is commenting on this topic, it’s probably not that popular.
For me, a project thread wouldn’t be that appealing; I think a thread on this topic would be short-lived, but I can only speak for myself.
