Hello dear readers,

Once again, the adult education center in our town has asked me to offer courses in knitting and crocheting. So far, the courses on making clothing (socks, hats, scarves) have been well-attended. Amigurumi and decorative items haven’t been very popular.
Does anyone have any ideas for what kind of course I could offer? Is there a crafting trend that’s a must-try? Or to put it another way, what kind of course would you be excited about and sign up for?

Thank you so much for your help

Nici

I’d sign up for a Tunisian crochet class right away.

And as for what to crochet or knit, I think bags and backpacks are great.
I always have this problem when I crochet—the holes end up being too big, and you also need to line everything so that small items stay in the bag. Or is that not an issue with Tunisian crochet anyway, but only with regular crochet?

Unfortunately, you’re a little too far away for me to actually be able to attend the class.

A tapestry crochet course.... Many people admire the bags I’ve crocheted using this technique.... Especially because they’re so colorful and you don’t necessarily have to sew in a lining. You can design the patterns yourself using colored pencils and graph paper, and you can also use cross-stitch patterns....
Right now I’m taking a course in Fair Isle knitting.... It took a long time for one to finally be offered, and the double-face course was great, too....
Best regards, Steffi

I’d also go to a “Tunisian crochet” class.
I bought a book just for that and have already tried it out a bit. I really like the entrelac pattern.

There are so many patterns that are nice and dense and don’t need to be lined.

Is Knooking still popular? I’ve never tried it.

Best regards, Marion

Macramé would be something—it’s back in style right now: hanging planters, nets, bags, wall hangings, and lampshades made from thick cord or even rope.
So far, I’ve always been a bit clumsy with the knotting and gave up when I tried to teach myself on my own.

Best regards, Heike

Well, I still need to teach myself macramé and knooking; I’ve done Tunisian crochet before, but I’m not really an expert at it. And I want to be really knowledgeable about the subject—you always have to expect that someone who already knows a bit about it might join the class.

Tapestry crochet was one of the first courses I taught. We crocheted Mochila bags, and it was really great—we ended up with some fantastic pieces.
