Hi, I’m taking a break from crocheting right now—a sort of creative break. But I can’t be completely uncreative,
so I’m currently making sock animals, lantern bags, and even bath salts; I’ve even made something out of wood.
The things I make go to a good cause as a donation to my son’s school, which sets up an Advent stand in a department store every year.
What are you guys up to during your creative break?
I’ll admit it—I also like to play on the kids’ Nintendo every now and then. My daughter has this fun game where you can decorate a house.
And the best part for me personally—no handyman, no construction site, no tidying up afterward. Just press the button and everything looks perfect right away.....
Otherwise, though, I prefer to be outside. If time allows, I go hiking and biking. I’m already so excited for when the snow finally comes—and even before that, when it’s finally cold enough to go ice skating. That’s when I get even more downtime, because then all four of us will be out on the slopes.
Oh yeah, and then there’s paint-by-numbers. I like doing that, too. I’m really good at coloring. But when I draw freehand, you really can’t tell a flower from a tree or a dog from a horse....
Well, I can’t go “without” doing something. My hands always have to be busy.
When I’m not crocheting, I’ll pull out an adult coloring book, do some puzzles, or play those escape games (where you have to get out of a room) on my tablet. Eventually, I’ll get around to working with my beads, too.
Soon I’ll have to make a birthday card for a milestone birthday (I still have some scraps to use up, since I’m not making any more of those).
I also use my sewing machine every now and then. My husband would like some sewn sandbags as miniature mock-ups for his tank model. We both have our hobbies.
So, as you can see, there’s always something to do.
I don’t really have any noteworthy creative breaks.
When I’m not doing needlework, I’m crafting. Today, for example, I started repurposing old CDs and gluing them onto a shoebox in a mosaic pattern.
Or I try my hand at origami.
For proofreading, my mental creativity is called upon at times.
I don’t take any breaks from being creative.
When I’m not busy with yarn and needles, I sew, do crafts, or paint.
That’s my hobby, my (side) income, my way to relax...
@Nicole: The proceeds from your craft items go to your son’s school—did I understand that correctly? That’s wonderful!
