Tapestry Technique

I'm totally thrilled with the tapestry technique, but unfortunately my crochet project is getting narrower and narrower toward the top.
What am I doing wrong?

I’m guessing you’re crocheting in rounds? Are you crocheting spiral rounds or joined rounds?

I crochet in spirals.

could it be that you’re pulling the yarn tighter and tighter as you go, making it firmer and narrower?
That’s actually happened to me before—you really have to be careful and try to maintain the same tension throughout.

Anyway, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it goes better next time :-)

I had the same problem when I first tried tapestry crochet. Just like Stefanie said, the reason was that I was pulling the yarn too tight.

Thanks for the reply—I’ll try to focus on working more loosely;
I’m sure it’ll be hard for me. I’ll let you know how it goes.

By the way, I recreated your “Colorful Crochet Bag”; it turned out wonderfully.
Could it also be that the bag didn’t get as narrow at the top because I worked with a maximum of 2 strands
on it? My new bag, which is turning out slanted, is being worked with a total of 5 strands.

especially when using 5 strands, it’s easy to pull them too tight. My tip: gently tighten each strand individually—it’s a bit time-consuming, but it works....
