Dear knitting pros

The ribbing (cast-on) on my hats stretches out so much that the hat slips down over my eyes. Is there a way to fix this problem (I’m not keen on the idea of pulling in an elastic thread) without having to rip out the entire hat and reknit it? I’d really appreciate any tips, since hat season is just around the corner.

Here’s my suggestion (maybe it’s silly :-)
take a strand of yarn in the same color and pull it through the cast-on edge
weave it in at the back of the head so it won’t show.

What do you think of this:

Sew a strip of fleece inside the cast-on edge—this will make it tighter and even warmer. There are hats like that—they’re fully lined.

—I’d just use needles that are 1 or 1.5 sizes smaller for
the ribbing; that way, they’ll be tighter!
