Crocheting a gingerbread house—maybe next year—and an Advent calendar, too

Well, it’s too late to start that for 2014—by the time I finished it, Christmas would be long gone. But maybe next year. I like gingerbread—not the real kind that much—and if it’s turned into a gingerbread house, with icing as glue, I think it would dry out somehow, and dry gingerbread is even less appealing than the regular kind. A gingerbread house made of chocolate wouldn’t be good, because I’d nibble on it—and very quickly.
So I guess my only option would be the gingerbread house from the store. That one looks really good; I wouldn’t have thought you could crochet it. It’s definitely great for people who are on a diet or don’t want to gain too much weight over Christmas, because nobody’s going to eat yarn. So, next Christmas, then. If my crocheting skills have improved enough by then. Has anyone reading this crocheted the gingerbread house? Is it very hard?

Has anyone here actually made a homemade Advent calendar this year using one of the patterns on Crazypatterns?
I didn’t have a homemade Advent calendar, but I did have chocolate and marzipan. :) And oranges and stuff with vitamins in them—vitamins are important too, not just chocolate all the time.

No, I’m not making one, but the house is pretty.

A lot of work for a decoration you can only use for 4 weeks a year
but it’s still very pretty.

Oh yeah, that’s a lot of work for the few weeks you can actually use it. I found the link here in my list of links that I’d overlooked a few days ago.

It probably wouldn’t be too bad with honey gingerbread, but if it’s been sitting around for weeks or has dried out, it’ll definitely be hard. But honey gingerbread always smells so delicious. :) So that’s just an idea for next year.

Hi.... what do you have in mind? Try describing it. Playful? Straight cut? Fitted? Flaring out at the bottom? Babydoll look? With or without sleeves? Suitable for everyday wear or more of a festive style?

Well, actually, more for everyday wear than for festive occasions… the skirt should be flared and fitted… and it should come in both short- and long-sleeved versions… I’d like to make it for my granddaughter, since my daughter-in-law loves handmade things… it can be either a summer or winter dress.
