Dear users, dear authors,
do you have plans for the weekend? Bought any new yarn? Started any new projects or finished any old ones? What’s going on with your UFOs, PIAs, WIPs, etc.?
What’s holding up your UFOs? How’s your creativity doing?
Tell me all about it. :-)
Now that I’ve finally finished two UFOs, I’m working on finishing the third one.
The new ideas are getting in the way a bit—I have so much swirling around in my head that I’m having a hard time concentrating and I’m feeling really restless.
And I’ll admit: my yarn mountain just never seems to get any smaller ;-) I ordered some more yesterday. And since I haven’t quite decided yet what color to crochet it in, I
“unfortunately” had to order the yarn in different colors ^^
So a few skeins turned into 30 skeins again—my yarn addiction strikes again, or was it the computer’s fault once more, acting on a whim???
Hmmm… I’ll blame the computer if my husband asks ;-)
Well, the number of UFOs is steadily decreasing... which means I also have to write patterns—and I really don’t like doing that.... :-(
This weekend, I’ll keep working on my UFOs... just as I planned...
In my mind, I’m already thinking about my new projects… but I won’t start those until the beginning of my vacation in mid-August… that’s my motivation to finally finish the UFOs.
On that note: have a great weekend, everyone!
@Sabine: I do exactly the same with the different colors ;-) … after all, who can really know in advance which color will look best for a particular design?
Here’s a question: At what point does a UFO actually become a UFO? Well, if something that’s only about two weeks old counts, then I’ve finished the frog keychain. The crocheted net bag took a little longer, and it’s now also got a heart for the shopping cart token. The “real” UFOs, meaning the ones that have been sitting around for years, are unfortunately still waiting to be finished - there are always so many new, very urgent projects to tackle, like baby booties (started the day before yesterday) and a crocheted dishcloth as a take-along project…
And yesterday, I just couldn’t resist this awesome yarn cake - I’m not quite sure yet what I’ll make from it!
for me, something’s a UFO if I don’t finish it right away and it’s been sitting there waiting for me for at least two weeks.
Then there’s the next level for me: EUFO—eternal UFO ;-)
That includes the entrelac blanket for my daughter—somehow those 860 squares aren’t going to finish themselves ;-)
And the sweater for my husband is still only 15 cm long....
@Petra,
it really feels good that you understand. My family just shakes their heads over it
I’ve got a few UFOs piling up right now because I planned and started several summer crafts, but I’m realizing I need to slowly start transitioning to fall and winter crafts. I’m still trying to finish one or two of them at the same time, but I can’t get everything done. So a few UFOs will be left lying around until next spring. But that’s okay—thanks to the groceries I ordered online, which come in very practical little stackable cardboard boxes, I now have a nice way to keep everything neatly organized. Just as eagerly as you’re waiting for your ordered yarn, I’m now waiting for my pasta and other groceries—not because of the contents, but because of the boxes—because then I can keep sorting and tidying up. The Cinderella in me is absolutely thrilled!
I’m not short on ideas either, and I’m afraid (like most of you here, I’m sure) that to bring them all to life, I’ll have to be reborn a few more times :-).
I’ve been out of commission for a while and am now slowly trying to get back into the swing of things. Right now, my arms full of needle sticks (because my veins roll) are still giving me trouble, but things can only get better.
Some PIAs are now finished, but other projects are waiting in the wings to turn into new PIAs.
I also have to crochet some more dancing mice. It’ll take a while yet before the whole dance troupe is supplied with mice... lol.
Plus, my “I-prepared-something-a-while-ago” box is waiting for new contents.
Good morning, I think the new word EUFO is great. But unfortunately I have to admit that I have far too many of them, leading a lonely existence in a large box.
At the moment I'm working on a UFO, a EUFO, and a new object is in progress, and yesterday I bought new yarn for yet another new idea.
But I'm on vacation starting Wednesday, and we're going to an alpine pasture. I'm hoping to finish a few projects there and also complete one or two of the patterns I've started for them.
Oh, and my little yarn bag for on the go also still has a UFO in it, but since I always have it with me, it's not really a UFO, but more of a "long-term project."
@dievomdeich : Are PIAs ProjectsInProgress?
Who knows a few more funny abbreviations from the world of handicrafts?
SABLE – stash amount beyond life expectancy (Yarn stash exceeds life expectancy)
When I first read that, I nearly choked laughing. And then I went veeeery quiet and mentally estimated the kilometers of yarn stored here and divided them by the number of years I hope I still have left. Well, yeah... ;-)
*wipes away tears of laughter*
We could develop a super-awesome secret language here. And then publish a dictionary right away: Knitting-ese (or Crochet-ese) – German!
Hey, I’ve found a gap in the market! *giggle*
I’m waiting for better weather so I can at least take my doll out to the lawn in front of the house to take some photos.
My creativity is doing pretty well so far.
However, the little projects buzzing around in my head just don’t seem to be coming together.
So I’m sticking to the bigger projects for now.
I realized today that having just ONE size 3 crochet hook in the house isn’t enough. My mother-in-law now wants to make the scarf with the spider pattern too—but in her own colors. And she needs the hook for that.
But I was planning to start a gift for my son’s friend. And I’d need that hook for that, too.
Thankfully, there are stores where you can order it. I was in town today, but unfortunately I didn’t know about my current hook emergency yet....
But I need yarn anyway—what a coincidence!
Until the delivery arrives, I’ll just keep working on the little UFOs, PIAs, and other projects lying around here. Since the weather here today is rainy with occasional breaks in the rain, it’s the perfect day for it.
you only have the needles/hooks in a single version ????
Well, I have quite a few in each size; only my favorite handles are single versions - so I have to wait for an extremely good day from my husband, and he has to make me some ;-)
Well, for a Christmas wish or as a birthday wish, he'll manage it in time^^
SABLE.....oh man, that's good.... I'll just plan to use up all the yarn I have in this lifetime, and I'll probably live to be 150 years old ;-)
Oh no, I haven’t done any crafting at all this weekend. We were invited to a wedding yesterday, traveled there on Friday, and just got home. The suitcases are unpacked. Somehow I’m totally exhausted, but somehow I also want to sew. Let’s see if I can manage to get up right away.
I love reading your enthusiastic crafting updates. I need to take a little break—my neck needs some rest. Computer work is out too. When we’re doing things we love, we sometimes ignore our body’s signals and just keep going. Now I need to take a break and give myself the time to lie back in a lounge chair in the garden and listen to an audiobook. There’s a time for everything.
I wish you all a relaxing Sunday.
I’m sending you get-well wishes too, Schnuckelina! Give your body a break and enjoy it.
This is funny—I had no idea that yarn projects could be UFOs. How cool!
I just stopped by here now, after the weekend. ;-)
I’m also slowly getting started with ideas and projects for the fall and Christmas season. I’ve still got a few UFOs lying around that I just don’t feel like working on right now. The yarn is just too warm and too thick.
So I’ve started crocheting something new again. If it turns out the way I imagine it, it’ll be totally cute. In any case, it’s going to have a face… and I’m already curious to see how I’ll pull that off.
As I mentioned last week, I ordered some yarn. I really only needed one color, but… well. I guess I ended up needing several after all. And some of it is actually already on the hook.
Since we’re celebrating a silver wedding anniversary this weekend and I can finally give my granddaughter the two strappy dresses, I won’t be able to work on my UFOs and PIAs for now. That just makes me look forward to next week even more.
Have fun with your PIAs, UFOs, and SABLE (yes, that could be me, too)!
