Hi everyone on the forum! I’m looking for yarn to crochet teddy bears. I used to have some really nice, fluffy yarn, but unfortunately I don’t remember the brand anymore...
I’d appreciate any tips :-)
Best regards!

Hi,
this one is super soft:

Baby Smiles Lenja Soft by Schachenmayr

I like working with Phil Douce by Phildar. It’s not exactly cheap, though.
Rico Baby Teddy is also very nice—it has a bit of a sparkle to it. Otherwise, as Ursulapetra suggests, try Lenja Baby Smiles.
A little tip: I use a crochet hook that’s 1–2 sizes smaller, usually 3 mm.
Good luck!
Ruth

Thanks for your replies. Mine specifically said “Teddy Yarn” on it (I’m really annoyed that I didn’t keep the label).
It has real “fur.” Maybe I can post a photo… I’m familiar with the baby yarns, but unfortunately that’s not what I’m looking for :-(

Maybe the best way to describe it is that you take a strand and then rub little fibers loose so that it ends up looking a bit fuzzy.
I’ll try to post a photo :-)

The yarns I mentioned do have “hairs” on them—they’ll turn out really fluffy. Look, the one at the top is Phil Douce.

There’s also Estivo II by Lana Grossa. That one is relatively thin, though, and works better for smaller figures. I once made a finger puppet out of it.

Otherwise, Brazilia by Schachenmayr comes to mind, but that’s a real fringe yarn with pretty long fibers...

Oh yeah, that’s exactly what I’m looking for! Thank you so much, Ruth! That’s such a cute doll :-))

I’m familiar with Brazilia—I have some here, too. For hair :-)
I’ll take another look at it. You can really see how fluffy it looks in the finished piece. Thanks for your help!
Best regards
Leslie

@ leslie-perrot,

MAYA by WollButt from Buttinette Versand... works great for crocheting and can be fluffed up.

But you can also use acrylic yarn and, after crocheting, brush it vigorously and for a long time with a pet brush—that will make it really fluffy too

Great! Thank you all so much for the awesome tips. Those owls are so cute, diba! And you all make such beautiful things. I’m still just getting started :-)

Hi,

I was browsing in a one-euro shop the other day and found cuddly yarn. It looks just as fluffy as yours.
They also have a cheaper alternative to Brazilia there, namely Regina.

It’s not available in every color, but it only cost one euro. Sometimes it’s worth browsing in shops like that, especially if you don’t need a specific color.

Best regards, Marlies

Thanks, Marlies. Good idea. I remember there’s a store near us that sells yarn, too. I’ll check it out!
Best regards,
Leslie

Hi, I was recently at the Teddy Bear Festival in Kressbronn and bought some yarn there, but I haven’t tried it yet. Take a look at www.threadteds.com—that’s where I got it.
Best regards, Helgi

I bought some at Wolle Rödel two days ago. I needed it for an amigurumi’s beard and went with “Fashion Fur.” It’s a pure synthetic yarn with a core and slightly longer “hairs.” They also carry “Teddy Aran.” You might want to try that one, too. Both are around €3 per ball.

Thank you very much. I went to Wolle Rödel, but they didn’t have anything. Apparently, they carry a different selection here. The store is also pretty small.
Thanks anyway for the info—at least I can start with the name. Thanks to Marlies’ tip,
I found some fluffy yarn in silver, white, and black at the 1€ store, which I bought right away, even though I don’t actually need it right now :-)) It’s called Lara.

At hobii.de, there’s a teddy yarn for size 3 hooks. It’s called Go Handmade Teddy. Is that something you’re looking for?
