I found a video series on YouTube for mittens
It’s actually for adults, but it explains how to estimate the number of stitches depending on hand size

You’ll find the rest of the series on the right, with or without fingers.

And here is another video tutorial, all in one video, but it has fingers.
It’s also for adults, so you’ll have to make it smaller.

I didn’t buy the pattern, so I haven’t seen what’s inside it and don’t know whether it can easily be scaled down to baby size.
Maybe you could ask Natalija whether that’s possible?
