Set of double-pointed needles size 3
30 g variegated yarn
Leftover yarn in white
Crochet hook 2.5 to 3

The pot holder (which can also be used as a dishcloth) is knitted in a simple knit-purl pattern, written out row by row and also shown in a knitting chart. Suitable for beginners, too!
You’ll need a scrap of cotton yarn—about 40 meters should be enough—and knitting needles. For a pot holder, I recommend using slightly smaller needles so the fabric is dense and firm, providing better protection against heat.

Knitting pattern for the ALL-SEASON BEANIE hat made from sock yarn

For this feather-light all-season beanie, which is made with knitting needles in various sizes (the brim with size 3.5 needles, the main part with size 6.0 needles, the decreases with 4.5 and 4.0) and with a size 3.0–4.0 crochet hook for the decoration, 70 g of 6-ply sock yarn is enough, though 1 skein usually contains 150 g.  So with the leftover yarn, you can easily knit a small loop scarf or even 1 pair of socks up to shoe size 36/37 :-)

Because of the pattern, it comes in ONE SIZE for women's sizes 38 - 44. Smaller sizes can be worn as "oversized." Weight gain and loss are therefore no problem.


Required materials:

300 g (without sleeves) / 550 g (pullover) Austermann Algarve
(100% cotton; 50 g – 142 m) for needle size 2.5 – 3.5; here: knitting needle 3.5, measuring tape, scissors, yarn needle, row counter helpful but not absolutely necessary. Gauge according to the ball band: 27 sts x 36 rows = 10 x 10 cm.

The pattern includes the images from the image gallery (see above); additional images are not included due to the simple construction.


Basic knitting skills are required, including yarn over, knit 2 stitches together, slip-slip-knit 2 stitches together (is explained).

You can knit a beautiful hat from just a small amount of sock yarn (approx. 35 - 40g, depending on size).

• Approx. 20g of yarn (Schoeller Stahl Zimba medium in color 0218) in the color you want your lion to be. The yarn should be suitable for a 3mm crochet hook (Schoeller Stahl recommends a 3.5mm hook, but it also works great with a 3mm hook)
• Approx. 20g of yarn for the lion’s mane (I used eyelash yarn, but it also works great with normal leftover yarn).
• White leftover yarn suitable for a 2mm crochet hook
• Brown yarn for the nose
• Safety eyes (8 mm)
• Stuffing
• Scissors, darning needle
• Stitch marker
• Pins to secure the individual limbs before sewing them together

The lanterns “Summer Joy” are perfect as decorations for the living room, hallway, kitchen, terrace, and so much more. They’re a great way to use up leftover yarn, as well as a few leftover buttons, beads, and other decorative elements. If you hang a string of lights inside the lanterns, they’ll glow at night too.
