I-cord

Hi,

I was wondering if I’ll need a lot of yarn for an I-cord bind-off. So I might have to unravel a few rows to make sure I have enough for the bind-off. I’ve finished the “Wellenhörnchen” stole and have already unravelled 1 1/2 rows, but that doesn’t seem to be enough.
I’d be very happy if I could get a reply soon so I can finish it today.

Hi Margit,

an I-cord edge always uses up quite a lot of yarn. You could try calculating it. Knit the I-cord over 10 stitches (i.e. the stitches you have on the needle), then mark the yarn and unravel that section. Measure it, and then you can extrapolate it to the total number of stitches. Add a little extra yarn just to be on the safe side.

Of course, I’d also like to thank you for this helpful information—until yesterday, I didn’t even know what an I-cord was.
I’m currently working on a triangular shawl where an I-cord edge is knitted on, which I’ve only just learned how to do. It’s great, isn’t it?
