What kind of handicrafts do you do in the heat? (no advertising)

Dear users, dear authors,
When it’s warm or hot, do you prefer to crochet , knit , or sew ?
Or maybe you’d rather do crafts in the shade?
I suppose this isn’t the right season for felting right now, is it?
Who’s felting right now? Well, although I suppose you can felt in the washing machine even when it’s hot. Wearing felted items, though, might not be so comfortable.
Where are our embroiderers ?
Who’s currently working on projects for winter , Christmas , and Advent ?

Well, I crochet in any weather. :-) I also have so many ideas—or rather, patterns—on my favorites list that need to be made. I’m pregnant, after all, and a little one needs so much :-)—and the worst part is, I keep finding more and more things here that I absolutely have to have. I just ordered some new yarn.

Sewing isn’t much fun in this weather. My sewing room is in the attic, and it’s too warm up there right now. But there’s still so much waiting to be done there, too. :-) 

Right now I’m working on several projects at once, but for some reason, none of them are really coming together.

Hi there. I pretty much always have something to crochet, no matter the weather :) 
June will be a bit stressful, though, because starting on the 2nd I’m hosting a Mystery Amigurumi CAL, the campaign is coming up at the end of June, and in between I still have 2 other projects on the hook.
Also, my terrace needs to be spruced up *laugh* 

But one thing is certain: crochet is always an option

The warm weather is actually ideal for wet felting and dyeing, and if you have a garden, you can do it wonderfully outdoors—in the shade, of course ;-) Wool felts much better in warm temperatures; the soapy water has to be as hot as possible anyway, and when dyeing, the dye reacts much better with the fabric at warm temperatures. So I’m definitely going to squeeze in a dyeing week soon so that I’ll have plenty of hand-dyed fabrics again for my sewing projects this winter :-))

I knit and crochet in any weather, so the heat doesn’t really affect the type of craft I do. It’s more that in the summer I prefer to knit with cotton once in a while, or make smaller items that don’t cover you like a blanket does. Lighter wools work well in the summer—small projects like hats or socks are no problem. I’m not so keen on large shawls; they just make me too hot :-)

I just finished a crocheted shirt and am currently working on something completely different: I’m building a house for my little fairy garden! That works well in the sunshine because the glue dries especially well.

That said, at these temperatures, I prefer to crochet with cotton yarn.

Right now, I’m crocheting a handbag for my daughter. Unfortunately, there
is no pattern for it, so I have to make it all up myself.

I don’t really care about the weather when I’m knitting or crocheting.

Right now, I’m working on a knitted skirt that’s slowly but surely nearing completion.

I’m always crocheting. No matter how hot or cold it is. But the hotter it is, the thinner the wool/yarn I use. And I stick to cotton—nothing fluffy or with novelty yarns.

Right now I’m working on a summer stole made from wonderfully soft and thin yarn. And I love doing it outside on the swing bench (Hollywood swing) in the arbor, watching my loved ones swim. Or in the afternoon on the balcony when it’s in the shade.

I have to say that during the warmer months, I actually love sitting at the spinning wheel the most. It’s funny, because that’s when you’re in even closer contact with the warm wool. But you can just sit out in the fresh air and then use the finished wool in the fall and winter.

When it comes to the craft itself, I (almost) don’t care whether it’s hot or cold :-)
However, my general urge to move drops to practically zero when temperatures hit 30 degrees or higher, so even my crocheting gets put on hold :-)

And similar to criseldis2006, when it’s warmer, I mostly crochet with cotton yarn or viscose—just something light.

Well, when the weather is really nice for fishing—meaning no east wind—I love knitting my gift socks on the fishing boat. It’s the perfect knitting project to take along.
So that means: my husband takes care of dinner—and I take care of my gift stash :-))))

As long as it’s just warm, I’ll keep crocheting anyway. Then I usually crochet smaller items like a loop scarf with cotton or lace yarn (alpaca and/or silk).

But when it’s hot, crafting isn’t for me.
