Crocheting with beads—is that possible?

Hi,
I heard somewhere that you can incorporate beads into your crochet projects.
Is that really possible? I can’t quite picture it.
I’m currently checking to see if I can find any helpful tutorials online or on YouTube.
Does anyone here know anything about this?

Hi, yes, you’ll be surprised—I just saw a picture of that the other day!

Hi Mützekatze,

yes, of course it’s possible, but you have to thread all the beads you’ll need onto the yarn before you even start crocheting. For larger projects with several hundred beads, that’s a real test of patience. A few years ago, I crocheted a beaded hairnet and almost lost my mind trying to thread the beads. You also have to keep in mind that you have to keep sliding the beads along the yarn until you need another one. So it’s definitely recommended to start with a small project that requires just a few beads at first.

By the way: In Melina106’s photo, the beads are sewn on afterward—they aren’t crocheted in.

I hope this helped a little bit.

Best regards,
Thordis

Thanks, Melina106 and Thordis :)

I found this on YouTube:

@Thordis
is this roughly what you described?

Have a great weekend, both of you :)

Hi muetzekatze,

back then I used cotton yarn (Catania or something similar) and threaded the beads (they were 4 mm seed beads with a 2 mm hole) directly onto the yarn and crocheted them in—with thicker yarn, a separate thread like the one shown in the video is, of course, much better.

Hmm.....I should still have some piece here that I crocheted beads into....I’ll look for it in the next few days, take a picture, and then post it. Maybe it’ll help you.

Best, Thordis

I’d love a little pouch that I sewed myself and embroidered with beads. Of course, it could also be crocheted. I think it looks best in light colors—like mother-of-pearl, cream, or soft pink—that match the color of light cultured pearls. I think real pearls are too expensive for me. What are rocailles again? I used to know, but I’ve forgotten. I’ll head over to the patterns section and read up on whether there’s anything there for pretty pouches with or without pearls.
