Crocheting slip stitches

Dear users, dear authors,
here are a few patterns that require slip stitches.
Slip stitches are used in crochet to close a round without adding height, as you would with a turning chain or starting chain.

This jacket design, made from nicje’s easy-to-follow pattern, is still missing from your wardrobe. Start crocheting now.

Elsa the Snake also requires a few slip stitches and many rounds until the snake’s body is finished, but it’s worth it.
Get the pattern now.

For the Knobblys, you’ll also need slip stitches and single crochet. But they’re quick to crochet. Just make lots of them, and you’ll have enough for keychains, bag charms, and gifts.

@Authors,
this is a promotional thread for all authors.
You can showcase 2-3 patterns here that require slip stitches.
Be sure to include an image, a link, and details on materials, techniques, difficulty level, and what makes the pattern special.

Dear Josefa,
this thread is somehow misleading.
*Slip stitches are used in crochet to close a round without gaining height, as you would with a turning chain / starting chain
.*

You need a sl st to close a round, and then possibly chain stitches to begin the new round.
Slip stitches are almost only for closing or “embroidering,” but you don’t crochet a whole project with them.
I think every crochet pattern here includes a slip stitch??

Good morning,

I agree with Ursulapetra. The description of slip stitches is a bit poorly worded and might raise more questions than it answers.
I’m guessing, Josefa, that you were trying to explain the difference between crocheting in joined rounds and crocheting in spiral rounds???

I see it a little differently—in Bosnian crochet, you only use slip stitches, and you can make wonderful things with them. Coincidentally, I still have pictures of a hat I made; the pattern will follow shortly.

Typical keyboard mishap—I actually wanted to add the picture :-)

As I said, crocheted using only slip stitches—the pattern will follow shortly

You’re absolutely right. You can do so much more with slip stitches than just closing rounds.
But I also think there are very few patterns that don’t use at least one slip stitch.

Maybe we should start a thread called “Slip Stitches: The Underrated All-Rounders.”
