Sock Knitting Course for 4-ply Yarn Using Newborn Baby Socks

This is an illustrated sock knitting course using baby socks size 15, knitted from 4-ply sock yarn, and consists of

a total of 4 PDF files:

• the main pattern,
• handwritten sketches,
• baby sock table for sizes 15–20
• and a sock table for sizes 22–47.

It also includes a baby mitten pattern shown in short form, since parts of the baby sock pattern can be used for it.

Don’t be alarmed! It is harder to describe the process than to knit the socks.


Materials needed: 
approx. 15 g 4-ply sock yarn for the baby socks, approx. 10 g 4-ply sock yarn for the baby mittens; for adult socks up to size 44: 100 g sock yarn; if larger, 150 g is required. Set of double-pointed needles size 2.5, measuring tape, scissors, yarn needle.

The baby socks can also be embroidered, for example, and used in various ways—not only as baby socks—e.g. as “packaging” for gifts of money or sweets, as an
Advent calendar, as a keychain (it looks nicer made proportionally smaller), etc.

The counterpart to the course for 4-ply sock yarn is the course with tables for all sizes for 6-ply sock yarn (click me).

Sweet preemie socks for a total foot length from 4.5 cm can also be used as doll socks or keychains or as gift packaging for money, or to decorate an Easter bouquet or Christmas tree—the possibilities are endless..

The pattern, together with the sock table, can be used for additional sock sizes up to shoe size 20 .

The download contains 4 files:

• PDF preemie sock table up to size 20 for baby socks
• PDF pattern for the individual preemie socks from 4.5 cm to 7.5 cm total foot length (23 pages incl. pictures)
• PDF pattern with detailed pictures for the principle (using newborn socks—17 pages)

General knitting skills (as well as knitting stitches together) are sufficient.

Why not get a head start?
An Advent calendar like this looks great, but it does take some time to make.
The cone-shaped bags are so quick and easy to crochet (and require only a few colors) that you can easily take them along as a small in-between project for the garden.
The Fox Advent Calendar crochet pattern is described in detail and, with a total of 35 pictures, is easy enough even for crochet beginners ♥



Materials: enough cotton yarn (125m/50g) in shades of orange, white, and black; size 2 1/2 crochet hook; sewing needle
Skills required: crocheting in spiral rounds, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, basic sewing.

The mermaid outfit for Barbie is perfect for crocheting outdoors or on the go.
You only need 2–3 colors; the pattern and decreases are very regular, so you’ll soon know them by heart, and the amount of material is so small that you can carry it in your bag. Plus, it’s finished so quickly that Barbie can go on an underwater adventure that very same day. The crochet pattern is here!

A small knitted piece that’s easy to take along into the garden is my Emmental wrist warmers. They’re called that because of the holes in them...
They’re quick and easy to knit; you’ll need 3 mm knitting needles and a leftover bit of sock yarn (approx. 90 m). How to make the holes is shown in a tutorial; the pattern is also written out row by row, and there’s a knitting chart as well.

Also great for the garden, because you’ll quickly get the hang of the pattern and then won’t have to keep checking it constantly, is this summer scarf, which, once it’s finished, is also very useful for cool evenings outdoors.
For it, you’ll need approx. 350 m of bulky cotton yarn (yardage 84 m per 50 g) and 6 mm knitting needles. With the bulky yarn, you’ll get that sense of achievement quickly.
