Crochet Knitting

Hello, my dear yarn lovers and crafty girls.
This is my first time posting here, and I hope you can help me out a bit. My problem is this: due to two strokes, my brain isn’t as sharp as it used to be, and I’m having a hard time understanding patterns. I’ve bought and printed out a few patterns, and I’ve tried following them, but I quickly set them aside because I just couldn’t figure out what I was supposed to do. :(:(
I’m not stupid, but because of my health issues, I haven’t told anyone about this yet—but today I’m just asking for help. It would be great if someone could reach out; I don’t have anyone else besides my husband.

Hello, and thank you so much for the quick reply. And no, I’m not giving up—I’ll keep at it, even if all I have to do is keep unraveling my work, which is exactly what I’m doing right now. I don’t have anything special when it comes to crocheting or knitting; I’m trying to make a pair of slippers—well, the emphasis is on “TRYING,” and that’s as far as it goes. I’m looking for step-by-step patterns, preferably with pictures, so I can check to see if what I’m doing is right. Because without them, I’m really lost—I can read the patterns over and over, but I still don’t understand what I’m supposed to do. It’s sad, but unfortunately, there’s nothing I can do about it. Even the 14 months of rehab didn’t help here; I’m currently making do as best I can. It does me good to do crafts—it helps my motor skills—and I just take everything apart and start over. :) It’s also a nice activity and a way to pass the time. If any of you have patterns for slip-on slippers or regular slippers, that would be great—I’d love to try knitting or crocheting them. It always sounds funny when I say I need to see everything in pictures, but that’s how it is with everything. Thank you all, and I hope someone can help me. Hi Roswitha :-) , I’d also like to echo what the others have said—I think it’s great that you’re not giving up and that, despite your disability, you’re not letting it stop you from pursuing your hobby. Many others would just bury their heads in the sand. You have my full respect, and I wish you all the best for you and your health! <3

thank you—I’d be happy to help. I could always use some help myself, and I’d love to meet someone in person sometime, but my embarrassment about my missing teeth is just too great. They had to remove all my crowns; the next step is to remove the implants, and then everything will go back in—so I still have two major surgeries ahead of me. I always feel like people are just staring at me. I may be 62 years old, but that doesn’t mean people have to keep looking at me and whispering. (That’s always how it comes across.) I also don’t go anywhere except to shop—“where else would I go? My husband and I are on our own, after all.” Then there’s the worry about my husband; he had surgery for cancer last year and still has to undergo several more tests to make sure it’s all gone. But enough about that—there’s really no need to tip your hat to me. I’ve recovered enough that you can’t see much anymore, except for my head, which doesn’t work the way it used to. But thank you, my dears; it’s nice to know that there’s always someone to chat with—then I don’t feel so alone anymore. Oh, before I forget—I have a TS 3 server connection where we can chat. If anyone’s interested, I’d be happy to post the dial-in number here; that’ll make it easier to reply directly. Of course, it doesn’t cost anything—it’s free. Well, my dears, I’m going to grab a jacket now and head over to Edeka to do some shopping. I’ll check in again later, though.

I have another tip for you. On YouTube, you can watch lots of crochet videos that go at a leisurely pace and explain each stitch one by one. This will definitely help you understand better, and soon you’ll be able to crochet or knit using all the wonderful patterns available at Crazypatterns .

Hi, thank you so much—I’ll do that. :) :) I’ll just have to write everything down slowly; that’s the only way I might be able to finish something someday.
