Longing for the Sea and Mountains

Dear users, dear designers,
who doesn’t know the feeling? Everything is annoying, everything is too much, and you just want to get away from everyday life. At least for a few weeks. Some people like the sea, while other vacationers prefer the mountains. There are even said to be people who include both alternately in their vacation plans. As long as it’s fun, both are good and relaxing.
Tip: If a vacation isn’t possible right now, either financially or time-wise, then simply get yourself a pattern from the Crazypatterns shop that suits your taste and treat yourself to a relaxing evening of crafting. You’ve earned it.

Crochet pattern: Triangle Shawl “COLOR PLAY”

Cheerfully colorful—in your choice of colors (you can even use up leftover yarn)—this triangle shawl is quick to crochet and very relaxing… and a wonderful gift for all kinds of occasions (Easter, Mother’s Day, birthdays, Christmas, weddings, etc.) or just for yourself. In appropriate colors, it’s perfect for a trip to the theater, or in a rainbow of colors for vacations and the beach.

• Also ideal for beginners
• NO gauge required
• for any yarn of your choice, any color—you can even use up leftover yarn
• Shawl size is up to you; dimensions of the shawl shown: approx. 200 cm x 100 cm
• Illustrated PDF pattern including a printable summary (no crochet chart)

These crochet skills are enough: chain stitches, single crochet, and slip stitches (all explained with illustrations)


Materials:
Basically, you can use any yarn you like with the appropriate hook size; thin yarns, lace yarns, and gradient yarns (e.g., Bobbel) work especially well.

For the size crocheted here, the following was used:

a total of approx. 350 g of Limone/Catania cotton yarn, 100% cotton, 50 g – 125 m, any color combination; here, 8 colors (partly using up leftover yarn); according to the label, suitable for hook sizes 2.5–3.5; used here: 3.5 mm crochet hook. You’ll also need: a yarn needle for weaving in ends, scissors. A stitch marker is helpful for beginners, and pins for blocking if needed. The cotton yarn used here saved me from having to block it :-).


And here’s something wonderful for the mountains, or more precisely as hiking or cabin socks:

Socks knitted from 6-ply yarn with charts for all sizes

Socks made from 6-ply sock yarn are a little thicker and therefore quicker to knit than socks made from 4-ply yarn. They are usually preferred for house and bed socks, cabin slippers, or also for hiking in mountain boots. Men love these kinds of socks in work shoes, too.

This is basically a sock-knitting course, illustrated in detail using children’s socks in size 32/33. All other sizes can be knitted according to the corresponding chart information for 6-ply sock yarn.

Don’t be alarmed! It is harder to describe the process than it is to knit the socks.

We need

• 1 skein = 150 g (yardage approx. 420 m to 450 m) up to shoe size 44;
• 200 g – 250 g from size 45 and up

of a 6-ply sock yarn,
used here: the especially soft Merino sock yarn in color 02 “Mally Socks – Lungauer Sockenwolle” by Ferner Wolle, 75% Merino, 25% polyamide; gauge approx. 22 sts x 31 rows = 10 cm x 10 cm; set of double-pointed needles 3.5; row counter is helpful; tape measure, scissors, yarn needle for weaving in ends.

I can offer a knitted bag with fish. They’re definitely swimming in the sea :-)
For this, you’ll need cotton yarn with a yardage of 125m per 50g—one skein of each color—a 3mm circular needle, and a suitable crochet hook for the handles.
If you’d like to line the bag, you’ll also need some lining fabric.

And then I also have a knitted bag called "Caribbean Dreams". The Caribbean is by the sea too.
It is knitted from cotton with a yardage of 69 m per 50 g on a 5 mm circular needle in a simple slip-stitch pattern. You need two colors for it: 2 balls in the background color and 1 ball for the pattern.

Triangular shawls are—when made in the right quality—suitable for both the sea and the mountains...
But the main thing is that they’re enjoyable and relaxing to make!

The size of the finished product is approximately 184 x 92 cm.
The gauge is listed, as always—for any adaptations!

Using yarn for hook size 3–4, the lion will be approx. 36 cm tall

Do you love long walks on the beach by the sea? On the North Sea and Baltic Sea, but also in warmer places, there’s often a little breeze blowing now and then, or the sun is blazing and there’s no shade in sight... In both cases, the SOLVEIG shawl has served me well! Or in the evening, when it gets cooler, a triangular shawl is wonderful to snuggle up in! I knitted the shawl with 2 colors of Malabrigo Sock, with the patterns and colors blending into each other to create a gradient effect. But I can also easily imagine it in gradient yarn or with 2 solid-colored yarns. Just give it a try!

A Dream of Waves – Mirabella

The Mediterranean Sea with its waves and the color of the yarn inspired me to create this pattern. Mirabella is easy to adjust in size, since you start crocheting from the center and stop once it reaches the desired size.
The pattern is richly illustrated, so even beginners will have no trouble following along.

Materials needed:

• Approx. 350g microfiber yarn (260m per 100g)
• Crochet hook size 3.5
  

Skills needed:

• Chain stitches
• Slip stitches
• Double crochet
• Treble crochet
• Cluster stitches

Ocean Beach—A Stroll Along the Atlantic

Ocean Beach is an intricately crocheted shawl whose pattern is beautifully highlighted by the short color gradient of the sock yarn.
The pattern is richly illustrated and explains step by step how to crochet the shawl.

Materials needed:

• Approx. 170g sock yarn (210m per 50g)
• Crochet hook size 4 mm
• Blunt tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Skills required:

• Chain stitches
• double crochet
• Double crochets worked together

Perfect for warm days—whether worn over a bikini at the beach or over a tank top in the city—it’s always an eye-catcher!
I wouldn’t recommend it for the mountains, though *hihi*

The mesh pattern is sturdy and doesn’t warp, since the decreases alternate.

The pattern includes a detailed schematic for size 38/40 .
However, the gauge , combined with the schematic, makes it possible to knit any size!

At least you can satisfy your longing for the sea a little with the knitting pattern for the Ocean Wave Shawl.

The shawl is knitted sideways and can therefore be adapted to any desired size.


You’ll need the following materials:

• 250 gr. gradient yarn, cotton-acrylic blend, 5-ply, 750 meters
• 1 circular knitting needle, size 4
• 1 stitch marker
• 1 needle to weave in ends
• 1 pair of scissors

Required skills:

• Casting on stitches
• Knit stitches
• Purl stitches
• Yarn overs
• Knit 2 stitches together
• Slip 1, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over
• Knit 2 stitches from 1 stitch
