Making a cat tent out of an old T-shirt and clothes hangers

Yeah, I know that sewing, knitting, and crocheting for pets doesn’t have that many fans here on the forum yet. Take a look here:
https://www.crazypatterns.net/de/forum/topic/359/ungewoehnlicher-kategorienvorschlag-handarbeiten-fuer-haus-tiere

You guys haven’t exactly jumped on that bandwagon in droves.
But that’s going to change. :)
I’ll be able to win you over—I mean, get you excited about it.
There’s already a category for it here:
https://www.crazypatterns.net/de/naehanleitungen-haustiere.

Take a look here, for example:

http://goodshomedesign.com/creative-idea-cat-diy-cat-tent/
—see all the things you can do with an old T-shirt, two hangers, and a pillow.
I think I’ll try that sometime, too.
My cats actually already have plenty of cat caves, cozy pillows, blankets, and of course their beloved cardboard boxes (they can’t live without them), but you can always use a cat tent like this.
And you don’t even need a sewing machine to make it. :)

I found the cat tent on Facebook—you can always find things there that nobody really needs, but that look pretty cute.

Have fun making your own! :)

Hi muetzekatze

how do you secure the hangers so they actually stay in shape? If they break off, someone could get hurt.

That looks fun, but I don’t think it’s very sturdy. If a 6–7-kilo heavyweight jumps on top of it, I don’t know how many times the tent would hold up.

While browsing on YouTube, I found a video that I really wanted to share with you, so I dug up this ancient thread again.
There was a cat who got its own hammock and then first had to learn how to get into it elegantly without the hammock flipping over and the cat falling down.
But I can’t find that video anymore.
Instead, I found another one on YouTube with a cat and a hammock for cats
http://youtu.be/8xJUyGVVDrE
The cat is playing around with it very cutely :)
If you wanted to make something like that, I assume the fabric would be the least of the problems.
Some kind of linen fabric would probably work well?
Then, of course, you’d also need someone who knows their way around woodworking.
I think I’d rather just look online for ready-made hammocks for cats :)
Do you also have a cat who would enjoy things like that?

Well, cats need nice little feel-good oases too. ;) For relaxing and stuff, or for playing and all that.

Dear all, and especially @muetzekatze
I found a few cat ideas there. The burger at the very top could probably also be sewn quite easily. Would that perhaps be something for you?
Sunny greetings, Sidney

Hello, I’m new here, retired, married, and a cat mom to 3 Maine Coons.
Is there a German pattern for the hamburger for cats too? Are the knitting patterns you can buy here in German? I don’t know any English.......
Thanks in advance for your answers
Your Irmi

Hello Suppenhuhn2302/Irmi
welcome to our forum and to the site.
The patterns here on Crazypatterns are usually in German; we have very few patterns in English.
You don’t need to worry about your language skills—most patterns are in German.
English patterns have English titles and product descriptions, so you can tell right away that they’re in English.
I hope you enjoy browsing and discovering new things. The cat burger comes from the internet,
it’s not a pattern from Crazypatterns, just a link to a picture of a cat burger.
Greetings from Mod Josefa

@Sidney
There are some really great things there; it’s a shame I’m not that good at sewing, otherwise I’d actually make the burger sometime. Maybe I can somehow cobble it together with two pillows or something. I’ll have to see somehow.

Today I found something else on Facebook about “entertaining cats.” It’s also along the lines of DIY, but not really in the direction of a craft pattern.
But just take a look at the link; I’m telling you, it works every time you do it with a cat.

In ancient Egypt, cats were basically worshipped as deities, but when you consider how easy it is to “catch” a cat, with a circle of tape on cardboard, for example, you sometimes kind of wonder whether there’s really anything to it. ;) But if you’re basically a deity, then you’re probably somehow above it all and can also get excited about a tape circle on cardboard. ;)

And I’ve also got a video for DIY cat toys
and here’s a pom-pom as a cat toy
have fun watching and making them yourself :)
