Handicraft Fashion of the ’40s and ’50s

, I was just doing some research on knitting or crocheting wool bikinis when I came across this site:

It’s definitely striking how much time has passed since the ’40s and ’50s.
Fashion has changed completely since then. In my opinion, you can already see that in the models pictured. These days, the models’ facial expressions in magazines and such tend to be aloof and distant; back then, that wasn’t the case. At least, that’s how it seems to me.

The sewing patterns are, of course, also a bit “quirky” or outdated by today’s standards.
Personally, I haven’t seen blouses with openwork embroidery patterns in a long time.
A lot of skill went into making those pieces.
Back then, people would pair knits with pretty pearl necklaces—something hardly anyone would do today. These days, knits tend to have a more rustic feel. Of course, there are exceptions. When I look at the shawls or boleros in the patterns, a pretty pearl necklace—maybe even a multi-strand one—would look great with them.

Is there anyone among you who still likes the fashion from back then, or do you find it totally old-fashioned?

I’m just asking out of curiosity.

Hey there... I think it’s chic but not really suitable for everyday wear... but for theme parties, Carnival, and things like that, it’s definitely super chic.

Can someone please help me? I’m supposed to knit this hat or something similar. Unfortunately, I don’t have a pattern for it and am looking for someone who can help me out.

The hat in the pictures looks similar to those hats with ties under the chin. You don’t see this design very often these days. Is it more for small children?

Then you’ll come across this exact old style of hat too.
 

And what do you think of them? I think these bags are beautiful and still trendy. They’re supposed to be crocheted.

I didn’t knit them — I couldn’t manage it.

It’s probably crocheted very tightly and has a fabric lining.

Yeah, that makes sense. Have you already worked out a pattern for this bag, or are you making it entirely without one?
What color did you have in mind?
I mean, with a bag like that, you obviously need the right outfit to make it look authentic.
Or do you tend more toward a deliberately stylish clash of styles?
 

I almost suggested pairing that with a pillbox hat in the style of Jacky Kennedy Onassis, but that doesn’t really fit the time period.

But you could at least give it a try.

I don’t think just anyone can carry a bag like that. The overall look has to match. No, I haven’t looked into the pattern for it. I prefer to work from my own designs. But I do think the bags are very original.
