My Creative Workspace

Hi, everyone!

Maybe some of you would like to show where your creative ideas are born or brought to life. It’s exciting to get a little peek through the keyhole, isn’t it? Here, I’ll show you my favorite spot in the winter. I always move the table right up against the window because there’s more light there. I only tidy up the sunroom when I have guests coming over; otherwise, that’s my “creative workspace.” Would you like to show yours?

Warm regards from “Ina strickt”

Oh, now I’ve got you curious, and then I only show you such a narrow picture. No, no, the picture was actually supposed to look like this: 2nd attempt

Hi Tanja,

do you actually work there too? (I don’t mean that in a bad way) … mine never looks this great—my worktable is tidy for once today …

... This picture definitely reassures me ... my geode gives me good ideas...

Tanja: It’s decorated so beautifully.
And it’s really tidy, too.

@MyBabyDesigns,
this is such a beautiful, dreamy place. So many lovely little details, enchantingly decorated - it must be a delight to work here. I’d probably just admire it and enjoy it. You’d hardly dare make a mess.

@Otterthaler_Haekelmaus
I find your setup more practical, not so whimsical. That beautiful large table offers plenty of space to spread out. Baskets for supplies, a lamp for taking photos, a big window, and an ironing board - all essential items for a creative workspace. And that corner seating area looks quite inviting.

Thank you very much for giving us a peek into your space. Maybe I’ll still manage to "unfold" my picture. I’ve contacted technical support. Best regards - Ina

Dear Tanja, I’m thrilled and speechless! The pictures alone are a delight. There are so many beautiful, lovingly arranged things and details to discover. And everything is so organized and tidy. Every little item has its own special place. If I were to visit you, I’d politely keep my hands behind my back and gaze in delight. You’ve really made it wonderfully beautiful for yourself. Thanks for sharing. Best regards - Ina

I just looked through all the pictures. Oh man, it’s so beautiful.
I’m moving in December. You wouldn’t happen to feel like stopping by and setting up such a great space for me, would you? :-))))

Just kidding. But the ideas with the jars, the bulletin board, and all that are really good. I’ll see what I can come up with. I think I’ll definitely be able to get one of the basement rooms, and then I’ll make it cozy :-)
My husband doesn’t need a hobby room. .. But I

Hi Tanja,
it’s truly an absolute delight to admire your photos—so cozy and playful. You immediately feel right at home when you see your home craft space like this.
I don’t even have a room of my own, but our living room is quite large, so I sit at the dining table. We had to get a new wall unit to store everything (we just moved and now have more space).
By the way, I also have that round sewing basket, only in beige with a colorful lid. I have a craft punch and a sewing machine too. You do tend to have lots of hobbies.

Everything is so tidy at your place, indeed. At my place, everything around me is stored away in drawers or fabric boxes. Only what I need is on the table.
Thanks for giving us a little glimpse. You just can’t get enough of looking at it. Simply wonderful.

Oh my, such great workspaces! My place is always in (creative) chaos. I always close the door so no one can see the mess... Every few weeks, I really have to tidy up, otherwise I can’t find anything anymore. When it gets that way again, maybe I’ll take a picture. But in its current state, the room isn’t presentable to others.

Ruthk: Thanks, it’s good to know you feel the same way I do. :-)
I was afraid I was the only chaotic one

Ooh, wow. I’ve got everything scattered all over the apartment. A computer spot in the kitchen, a work corner on the sofa, and supplies in the closet in the living room and bedroom. ... Someday I’m sure I’ll get my own space, too.

@everyone
Thank you so much for your comments and interest!
It was the same for me—everything was stored away in drawers or boxes (all over the house). And then I had the idea to organize my craft room. I have no idea why I didn’t think of it much sooner! When you knit and do crafts as much as I do, and you have a family with a child, 2 dogs, and 4 cats, having your own craft room is an absolute MUST :-)
Have a wonderful Monday, my dears!
Best, Tanja

@Tanja,

WOW.... no words—well, one more: heavenly ;-)
@ Schnuckelina,

I resized my pictures in Photoshop before uploading them :-)

 @Arni and Ruthk
My workroom was (almost) tidy at that point)...I'll take a few pictures when I'm fully in action ..... then it looks different:-)...
and yes, it's a room where everyone meets.
It's in a really great central spot in the basement, with a view of the front door, and I notice everything that happens in the house. My youngest has a desk in my room with his PC on it. Maybe it seems strange to you that a 5-year-old has his own PC, but he is also learning to speak with it. He can only open certain pages on the internet, and I always have an eye on what he's doing.

My big table with the corner bench is very often the meeting place for the teens in the house. The whole crew sits there with me and talks about school, training, work, and what's going on with their friends. My husband comes after work and then eats right next to me, even though we have a huge eat-in kitchen. My uncle sits next to us with coffee and the newspaper.
And Junior also spreads Lego and modeling clay around on the table .... you can surely imagine the chaos ;-)

And once or twice a week the table gets cleared off because I do have to iron sometimes :-) And my table is always getting too small. And my chaos corner in that room is behind the door.... nicely hidden.

Oh, I think I’ve got it now. My yarn and I are actually scattered all over the house. I love sitting in the sunroom the most. It’s nice and bright here, and I can take good photos. Sometimes I also sit in the attic under the big skylight. My son gave me his big desk when he moved out—I have plenty of space on it and don’t have to put anything away after I’m done working. Best wishes—Ina

@Schnuckelina,

you have a great view and lots of light there ;-)

@Arni and RuthK,
my oh-so-big table has once again become too small; luckily it’s made of solid oak, otherwise... As promised, here’s a picture of the weekly chaos :-)

Dear Sabine, I think it looks beautifully lived-in and cozy. A room full of life. And just as you wrote, everyone loves to gather here. It’s the most important room of all! Everyone feels comfortable here, like they belong, and well looked after with all their things. No wonder this is also where your creative projects come to life. Hugs — Ina

This is what my future craft room looks like right now ;)

I’m excited to see what it’ll look like when it’s finished (just like me *laughs*)!

One thing’s for sure already… a luxurious 50 square meters…

Best,

@Nina,

I also have an attic to convert, but unfortunately the only way up is a rickety ladder, and I don’t want to climb that high ;-)
But 50 square meters—that’s enough to make anyone green with envy… please, please send a picture when it’s finished—I’d love to see it!
A good tip from one mom to another: be sure to include a play corner :-)

@Ina,

sometimes there’s just too much going on in my room, like when I want to write a pattern and everyone keeps talking at me.... then there’s only one thing that helps: fingers off the keyboard and maybe a stern look.

And after the ironing chaos, it was tidy for a whole two minutes—then I spread everything I need out on the table again... which doesn’t bother me at all anymore.

At first, I was always embarrassed when someone rang the doorbell and the door opened.... the sight of my messy table—but today everyone already knows what I’m doing there and heads straight to the workroom to see what I’ve got on my needles again.

@Sabine:

Yes, a play corner and a kids’ craft table are definitely in the plans!
Over the last 6 years, I’ve realized time and again how impractical a home office is without space for a child or children...
There’s no way to work in a relaxed way...

And of course: there will be photos—if only out of sheer “pride of ownership” *laughs*
