Dear users, dear authors,
I’ve heard a rumor that you can chase winter away with lots of crafts. Would you be so kind? Could you do something about that?
Thanks :-)

If that’s the case, then I’ll stop crocheting right away, dear Josefa.

I may be in the minority, but I love winter. The snow and winter sports. The cozy fireplace just as much as hot chocolate.
I really miss the winters of my childhood, when a thick layer of snow covered everything for 2–3 months and I (what bad luck!) couldn’t even go to school every now and then because the school bus unfortunately didn’t show up.

But I think my crochet addiction is stronger than my love for winter. And the other seasons all have their advantages, too.

Hello Josefa,
well then, I’ll quickly unpack the new yarn and get started, hoping it will actually help.

I think winter is great, but I prefer to look at it from a greater distance. I don’t need it here where I am. Sunshine, clear air, and frost are enough for me. Snow is just something I have to clear away.

@Pe-Ka: those were real winters back then... I still remember a wonderful snow cave that my father had built for us.

Best wishes, Marlies

I'm completely with Pe-Ka on this: winter is something wonderful! :)

Since I come from one of Germany's snowiest areas, I'm used to everything being covered in snow in winter.
Snowbanks several meters high were nothing unusual there; I loved it and I still love it.
Skiing, snow caves, snowmen, white trees, snowball fights,... oh...
Even though I now live only about 30 km away, I still miss the snow. While my family sometimes reports, for example, about 60 cm of fresh snow, I have to make do with about 30 ;) 120 meters of elevation make the difference :(

@Pe-Ka: We'll simply start the rumor now that crafting brings beautiful, snowy winters. :)

Yeah, you’re right—there’s definitely something cozy about winter. And all that time in the evening for crocheting is definitely part of it, too ;-)

Still, my favorite season is definitely spring. When nature slowly comes back to life, the trees take on a hint of light green, and the whole world is bathed in fresh, bright colors! :-D
And it’s not just nature that gets a huge boost—I always feel like I suddenly have so much more energy and zest for life, too. Then I want to spend lots of time outside and just enjoy the air. Plus, nature smells completely different then, so fresh and “new” (like fresh laundry) ;-)

Oh yeah! Spring is great :-D .... I’ll go ahead and order an extra serving ;-)

If that were true, I’d be crocheting and knitting like crazy. I don’t like winter—as far as I’m concerned, they could just go ahead and do away with this season altogether. ;-)

If we had snow here, I’d like winter too, but in Hamburg, winter just means a slightly colder fall. It’s just a bummer. In February we’re going to Austria—my husband to ski, and me????
I tried it once last year, but I made a mistake. I didn’t hire a private instructor; instead, I took a beginner’s class… and it was terrible. Fifteen people, fourteen of whom spoke English, and me. And that was in Austria.  So the course was taught in English—I can get by in English, sure, but it was totally annoying. Plus, the ski instructor was unmotivated. Etc. But I still had fun last year—going for walks, a snowshoe hike, and so on. We’ll see how it goes this year. I like the snow, but I’m a bit wary of the skis :-)

@Arni,

then come to Schneeberg in Lower Austria. Your husband can go skiing, and I’m not far away, so we’ll have a crochet meetup :-)

If it were about crocheting winter away: we wouldn’t have any here, the way the hook is flying :-)

I’m already so looking forward to spring. I’ll have less time to crochet then, but I can work in the garden again and chat with the flowers so they grow faster.

Maybe next year... :-)
This year we’re in Obertauern (Salzburg region). He used to go there all the time with his dad.
But I’m going to bring plenty of yarn with me

@ Otterthaler_Haekelmaus
I was just about to make the same suggestion to Arni! So if we’re crocheting, that would make three of us ;-)

Ooooohhhhh.... Years ago—really, really years ago—I used to vacation in Austria, in the Zillertal. We were also often in the area around Obertauern.
Well, I do think real winter, with lots and lots of snow and a bright blue sky, is beautiful too. But we don’t have that here either. :-(

@Arni
Just imagine it—you’re sitting all bundled up in a lounge chair, looking out at the snowy mountain scenery while crocheting.... sigh.... I’m coming with you. ;-)

I’ve had enough of winter for a long time now. Here in North Rhine-Westphalia, it’s just cold, usually damp and gray, and when a few snowflakes do drift down from the sky, they freeze solid right away or turn to slush.
On top of that, I struggle with depression almost every winter, but crocheting or knitting helps—especially when I’m under my daylight lamp (light therapy)—and when it gets really bad, St. John’s wort.
I’d much rather have spring back and get out into the garden.

Congratulations

Yes, but please don’t stop, so it stays so spring-like!
