I think these slippers are beautiful and would love to crochet them for myself. Unfortunately, my feet are much bigger, and I don’t have much experience. Can you tell me if I can easily crochet larger slippers using a pattern for kids, and if so, how?
I already wrote to the author a while back, but unfortunately didn’t receive a reply.
Does anyone know anything about this?
Best regards
Blume
unfortunately, slippers aren’t really my area of expertise. That’s why I can’t really give you any concrete advice.
I’ve also tried writing to the author again and hope she’ll get back to you soon. After all, she’s the one who should know best.
Especially now during the holiday season, it might take a little while, of course.
Have you checked yet to see if there are any other slippers in a larger size that you might like? I know of many authors here at crazypatterns who have great patterns for adult-sized slippers in their shops.
Hi Blume,
How much bigger would you need the shoes to be?
If you need them to be one or two sizes larger, you can often make do by using, for example, slightly thicker yarn and a larger hook size.
In this pattern, the sole is crocheted separately. You can make the sole a bit larger by, for example, replacing one round of single crochet with half double crochet.
For really good-fitting larger shoes, though, you’ll need to do some calculations.
You can look at how the individual sizes differ—where more or different stitches are crocheted. Once you’ve figured that out, you can essentially extrapolate the pattern and calculate the larger sizes yourself.
Good luck!
Karin
Hey,
yes, of course I could just pick a different pattern. You’re right about that. But out of all the ones I’ve found, I like the “pattern” on this one the best, and they look the “sturdiest.” I mean, they seem to have a shape and hold it well. All the others are nice too, but they don’t look as well-shaped, more like socks. Do you kind of get what I mean?
Thank you all for your replies so far.
Hi Blume,
well, the stability of wool slippers is a bit of a tricky issue. You can’t really tell just from the photo, especially if the slippers are pictured without feet inside them. Without feet, the crocheted slippers can, of course, be easily shaped.
Wool slippers made from medium-weight yarn, as in this pattern, will definitely mold to the shape of your foot when worn and lose their rounded shape at the toe.
Crocheted slippers hold their shape better when worked with two strands held together.
Felted slippers become sturdier through the felting process and hold their shape well.
I really enjoy working with tubular yarn made of cotton and polyester (e.g., Iceyarns Tube Cotton). I use it doubled, which makes the slippers very sturdy.
Best regards,
Karin
