I crocheted a little mouse—but I’m not finished with it yet

hello everyone

so I picked out a pattern
namely this oneAmigurumi Mouse Molly Crochet Patternbecause I thought, a little mouse like that, I can manage.

so I started, and right at the beginning I had a problem with the magic ring
but that’s because of me, not the pattern
in principle, I do know how to make a magic ring
but I had forgotten
so I made do with a foundation chain plus a slip stitch

the mouse’s body then worked out reasonably well
even though I once again got mixed up counting stitches and rounds
I did place a different-colored thread at the beginning of the round, but of course forgot to move it in every round
that’s just how it is with things you’ve theoretically learned in YouTube videos
but somehow completely forgotten because you’ve only ever been making double crochets
I crocheted the mouse’s body with two strands at once because I wanted the mouse to be a bit bigger
the color choice can safely be called “unusual,” but it’s just leftover yarn
I actually wanted to work catnip into the mouse’s body
so I could give the mouse to the cats afterward as a toy
but I was out of catnip
and stuffing too, by the way, so I stuffed the mouse with tissues. ;)

I have heard before that it’s better to take pictures in daylight
but I really wanted to document my “progress” before going to bed

the mouse’s little ears really didn’t work out anymore
my “little ears” look like this, well at least one of them does
but it’s not right yet
I have to redo it

so this is what it looks like at the moment
when you want to do a lot, but can’t quite do that much yet
but maybe I’ll learn it someday
that’s what all the patterns are there for, after all :)

The mouse’s body still looks a bit holey, so you can see the stuffing peeking out
Oh well, let’s see — the next little mouse will turn out much nicer :)

Hi :)

Considering you’re still not that experienced, it’s already looking pretty good. Especially with tiny amigurumis, I have my own little problems with my fingers too :D

The only thing I’m wondering right now, regarding the tissue stuffing... what do you do if the little mouse gets dirty and needs to be cleaned? I think this type of filling isn’t really suitable, because the tissues will clump up... hmm.

By the way, I think the idea with the two strands of yarn is great. You can achieve wonderful color nuances that way too, especially if you don’t happen to have gradient yarn on hand ;)

Kind regards, Nici

Thanks, Nici :)

I just find it easier to do “freestyle crocheting,” if I can call it that. Counting stitches and stuff—that’s just not my thing.

Yeah, stuffing it with tissues was a bad idea, looking back, because you really can’t wash it. I’d thought about stuffing it with fabric scraps, but I figured that would make it too lumpy and uneven.

As for the two strands, I really like doing that because it creates some nice effects. But I don’t actually do it as an alternative to variegated yarn—I do it more because I don’t like such thin yarn. That’s why I just use two strands. :)

Have you crocheted this mouse yet, or are you planning to crochet it?

Come on, muetzekatze. You can do this. You can make much nicer things by counting stitches. Or do you just want to keep making blankets and scarves? Take a look around the shop—there are so many great patterns. Once you’ve got the hang of counting stitches, you’ll be able to make all of them, too.

You’re right, Clara :) Just crocheting away without a plan is sometimes more fun. But then again, if I want to make pretty things, I’ll have to practice that.

No, the little mouse isn’t finished yet—I’ve been pretty busy the last few weeks and just didn’t have enough peace and patience for little mice.
