Crocheting or knitting lace patterns? (not an advertising thread)

How do you create lace patterns when crocheting and knitting? Are there other techniques that work well for this?

I'm currently working on a poncho with yarn for needle size 3, using a size 6 crochet hook, mainly with treble crochet. The large stitches basically create a lace pattern already. In between, I also have a few rows of treble crochet, chain stitch (skip one stitch), treble crochet... simple but lovely...

In knitting, lace patterns are created by combining yarn overs and stitches knitted together. They can also be created by binding off and casting on new stitches.
Depending on the arrangement of the stitches and yarn overs, you can create delicate and intricate lace or ajour patterns.

In crochet, lace patterns are created through the interplay of chain stitches and single crochet, double crochet, or treble/double treble crochet.
For example, a special technique for connecting double crochet and chain stitch arches results in delicate Bruges crochet or romantic Irish crochet.

I’m currently working on a table runner for my mom as a Christmas gift. In filet crochet style.

Openwork patterns also look particularly delicate when you use a relatively thin yarn with a long yardage and relatively large needles or a larger hook size than indicated on the ball band ... because that creates a small hole in almost every stitch, resulting in a very airy pattern.
