Work is twisted

  • Hi, does anyone have a tip for me on how to crochet a round piece without it twisting?
I’m totally at my wits’ end—I’ve had to start over several times already. I want to crochet an infinity scarf, starting with 100 ch.
Thanks in advance. Sandra

Hallo Sandra,

Je nachdem in welchem Muster du den Loop arbeiten willst häkelst du am besten erst eine Rückreihe und schließt erst dann die Runde.

Liebe Grüße und viel Erfolg

This can keep happening when you have a large number of chain stitches, and of course it’s incredibly frustrating because you then have to keep starting over from the beginning.
I use a little trick from time to time. I crochet the required number of chain stitches and then, depending on how the pattern continues, make the necessary turning chains. Then I don’t join it into a ring; instead, I turn the work and crochet the first round as if it were a row, so to speak. Only after finishing this row do I join it into a ring, either with a slip stitch, depending on the pattern, or I continue crocheting in a spiral. I then use the starting tail to close the small hole.

I do it exactly as described above. For very long chains, I also drape the chain around the back of a chair and make sure it isn’t twisted anywhere before I join it.

But there’s also a little trick for foundation chains:

First, crochet about 5 to 6 chain stitches. At this stage, you can still see pretty clearly what the chain should look like. Then briefly remove the crochet hook from the last loop and insert it into the very first chain stitch (so you’re threading the very first chain stitch onto the hook). After that, just continue crocheting the foundation chain as usual (but the first chain stitch stays in place on the hook the whole time). Once you’ve crocheted the last chain stitch, all you have to do is pull the last loop through, and the foundation chain will automatically be joined correctly :-)

@uschimaus
Yes, it’s complicated to explain — but basically it’s quite simple :-)
