what is Tapestry and what can you do with it? Thank you for your informative answers.

I’m familiar with the term tapestry needle. It comes from English and means “wool needle.”

Tapestry = wall hanging, tapestry

—but I’m sure you mean the new crochet technique.

This crochet technique does indeed look very similar to an embroidered or woven picture. It is worked in single crochet, with the yarn in the other colors carried along and crocheted over. This creates wonderful patterned pieces for large blankets, wall hangings, or even the very popular pouches and bags (mochilla).

There are even apps that can turn a photo into a crochet chart. My neighbor is currently crocheting a banner of a band; it will surely be over 2 m long. Absolutely amazing.

Tapestry is to crocheting what the Norwegian technique is to knitting: multiple colors are worked in a single row.

While in knitting (unless you’re doing double knitting), you can see the carried strands on the back, in crochet the strands are hidden beneath the stitches and are therefore nearly invisible.

There’s a great YouTube video for anyone interested in this technique.

I use Tapestry to crochet bags, backpacks, and mochilas... the more threads you “crochet together,” the sturdier the piece becomes. I think it’s perfect for making bags. It’s definitely durable (my daughter has been carrying hers around every day since August 1, and it still looks brand new).
