Yarn for summery/lightweight items?

What kind of wool/thread/yarn do you actually use when you want to make something light for summer? Like a light scarf for the evening, or a vest, tunic, etc.
Do you know anything about this? Do you use this “lace” yarn? I have no idea what that is. I just saw in a video that there’s apparently something from Lana Grossa, but to be honest, it’s too expensive for me.

For a light scarf or shawl, I’d actually go with lace yarns. However, they’re not just available from LG but also from other manufacturers. That said, you can really use anything that has a high yardage. Lace yarns typically run from 250 to 300 m per 50 gr. Pair that with size 4.5 to 5.5 needles—and you’re good to go.
In terms of composition, the lace yarns I’m familiar with are similar to sock yarn—about 70 percent virgin wool and 30 percent polyamide. But you could also use a thicker yarn, for example, and knit an openwork pattern. I’m not really sure about crocheting, but I’m sure you can create lace patterns that way, too. Don’t say you can’t—I’m actually thinking of making a stole to go with my hat, which isn’t quite finished yet. I just dug out a pretty thin merino blend at home that I wanted to use to try my hand at crocheting—provided I can find a suitable pattern.
I can’t really say much about classic yarns, since I just buy my wool at the wool factory. Have you looked at ... I can’t remember the name of the shop right now—here in the knitting section. They have some great lace shawls there. Maybe she’ll tell you which yarns they’re knitted with. I can totally picture a great mohair yarn for a shawl—used double (at least for knitting) since it has a yardage of about 500 m / 50 g. But how to crochet something like that ... maybe I’d rather just knit it after all?

So that means lace yarns are relatively “light.”
If the composition is similar to sock yarn—is it just as itchy?

I’ll have to look up openwork patterns; I can’t really make anything of that right now.

It depends on what you want to knit.
For summer, I prefer thin yarns, including 2-ply sock yarn, which is soft, or something with a linen or silk content.
If you don’t like cotton, then a lace pattern (= openwork pattern).
There are lots of websites with suitable patterns, or you can come up with your own. Dropped stitches are also good for summer.
